Child Care vs Home Care  |

 In today's society, many of us are not able to fulfil the traditional role of caring for children and the home full time. Sometimes this is due to unforseen circumstances, sometimes by choice.
Whatever our reasons, many of us are placing our young children into some form of care. For those of us who do not have the opportunity to have our children cared for by our extended family (or perhaps do not consider this an appropriate choice), we are left with the decision of whether to use a day care centre or a family day care arrangement.
Therefore we have a generation of children growing up with non-traditional care arrangements. Will we see an impact of these arrangements in years to come?
Our discussion this week is based on our choice of caring for our children in our own home, or having them cared for outside the home, be it in a specialised centre or a less formal arrangement.
We would like to hear your views on which is best ... for the child, for the parents, and even for society as a whole.
Does the way in which a child is cared for have an impact on their upbringing, their personality, their confidence, or even their contribution to society in later life?
Have you chosen to raise your child at home yourself, or do you rely on part time or full time care outside the home? Share your reasons if you'd like.
What are the benefits to these different forms of care? Are there any negatives you've encountered? Do your needs conflict with your beliefs, and if so, how do you find a balance between the two?

1.  marief2rnurse (2514) | 3 years ago |  As a single mom of 3, I prefer to have my kids taken care of at home. I go to school so I look for a maid who is referred by a relative if not a relative so that I'm sure my kids will be taken care of. I also look for one who is older, preferrably someone who has kids and knows how to take care of kids. I admire those who can take care of their kids before and after daycare. The daily commute for me and homework are too much I really don't much time with the kids.
If I could have my way I would stay at home to take care of them on my own but still with a maid who will do the house chores.

2.  mummy2jake (351) | 3 years ago |  well i am a sahm myself. I couldn't change it for the world. Yeah sometimes the house is a mess & sometimes i am having a crappy day, but most of the time, waking up to our gorgous son is the most wonderful & fulfilling thing ever & i love it!!!!

It also allows us to demonstrate positive parenting in the way we react to problems that occur here before they happen in school

| 4. AndreaM76 (699) | 3 years ago |  I had no choice but to work and work alot with my oldest child. I felt I missed too muc but I had to support us. Now I'm a stay at home mom because we moved to a new town and I just can't trust my baby in other peoples' hands. Then I had the trusted help God sent me but now I guess It's meant for me to stay home because noone has came my way so I can work outside the home. It as made a huge difference for both my kids.

| 5. tinamarie11 (35) | 3 years ago |  I was a SAHM for five years until I got divorced. Now I work at home and my kids go to my mother's daycare, which is 1/2 mile down the road. Before my kids were born, i worked in large day care centers. I would not want to put my child in one unless I had to. I am fortunate that I have the luxury of choice, when many people do not.
