Why do airlines give plastic knives but METAL FORKS??..

Last Christmas, we went to the province. We rode an airplane back and forth to lessen the travel time. The airline served us lunch. In the plate was the food, plastic knife, and metal fork. At that time, I thought it was just normal because it was my first time to ride an airplane. After the ride, I thought that a metal fork is as deadly as a metal fork. But why did that airline provide us with these deadly weapon? Are they not aware that a metal fork can be used a weapon of destruction? So, I asked my father because he always rides an airplane. He said that these certain airline always give these metal forks. Now I am confused. What if these metal fork was used to kill a passenger of the airplane? Is this the only airline that gives a metal fork or do airlines like these exist? Scary thought!
