How would you react if your non working partner runs up a large debt

In this case a person wasn't working for 8 years. They had an injury and then found it hard to get work which is unfortunate. Their partner had 2 jobs to make ends meet.
They didn't tell their partner that they got a credit card with a $10K limit and maxed it out in under 6 months. When this happened they raised the limit to $15K which they then maxed out again.
Finally they told their partner who was rather annoyed about it, but who has brought the balance down by $3k. This person feels perfectly justified in spending that kind of money as they have to do something to not get bored and cannot understand why their partner is annoyed not only for spending that kind of money on trivial things but also doing it without discussion (being at home they got the mail first and hid the statements) but also because they have not lifted a finger to get themselves out of it and they are constantly sabotaging their partners attempts to have a budget.
