3. Agimat (319) | 3 years ago | That actually happened to me. What I did was get another drive with windows already installed and made that my master drive. I set the "dead" drive to slave. I then installed File Scavenger and used it to recover files from the crashed drive.

5. bunnys2007 (191) | 3 years ago | Well, in my past 5 years of experience, this has never ever happened and I never ever formatted my hard drive even once!! In case this unfortuante event happens, then I would immediately go to some Data Recovery shop for more help.

6. santuccie (1940) | 3 years ago | I use Acronis True Image to keep a backup image of my entire operating system on DVD. And plain data files are easy to backup, of course. Whenever I have a certain amount of irreplaceable data, I burn it to CD/DVD, or stick it on my external hard drive until I get around to it. Or, if it's especially important, I'll keep a backup on hand, and also upload it to Xdrive, where I get 5 GB of free storage courtesy of AOL.
When that fateful day comes when my hard drive decides to retire, I'll verify that's actually the problem, then go and buy a new drive. I'll stick it in my machine, format it to NTFS in Partition Magic, then load my backup image onto it and move forward like nothing ever happened (except I got a new and better hard drive).;)

For make, delete or move partions on your HD there is an othe opensource tool is called Gparted: http://gparted.sourceforge.net/
There is a live cd too: http://gparted.sourceforge.net/livecd.php
And in the end the best surprise... actually is available a live cd with clonezilla and gparted togheter!!!!
