What is the best remedy for gout? |
|
I have heard so many different remedies for gout... I don't know what to tell my dad to try. He swears on cherries (which are very expensive in Florida). Does anyone have others?

1. wmg2006 (4120) | 3 years ago | My grandfather use to get gout a lot. I know it has something to do with uric acid and pain and swelling of joints. So first you want to stop building up the uric acid in your body, you can do this by diet. It is a little like arthritis and all the stuff that works for arthritis will work for gout. I use plain old aspirin for arthritis and so did my grandfather. You also need to drink a lot of water to flush the uric acid out of your system. And i know my grandfather used baking soda to soak his foot in.

But as you say, prevention is the key to a life without the pain of gout.

3. buenavida (1394) | 3 years ago | Perhaps you could get some good ideas from my answer to dynaweb about food that should be avoided and what I did to get rid of gout. I cannot copy and paste here yet but you will find the discussion in his profile.

But indeed, that is a good remedy... anything with a high concentration of cherry juice.

| 6. MommaBast (73) | 1 year ago | I've done the cherry thing too, and still do, though I can't say it helps. I buy the JuicyJuice Cherry juice, and my King Soopers carries an organic Cherry Juice, which is just cherry juice and nothing else. I've also tried the cherry pills you can order online.
I've heard that drinking one cup of coffee a day is supposed to help. Tried it. Didn't see a difference.
I've also recently heard that trying to get your blood's pH to be more base can help. The theory is that, if the blood's pH is already acidic, then when the uric acid hits the blood, it can't dissolve, so it builds up and deposits. If you get the pH to be more base, then the uric acid can dissolve in the blood, making it more neutral, and you don't have problems. I've started drinking more milk because of this, but haven't been doing it long enough to know if there's a difference.
There's a website called goutpal.com which has a whole bunch of things on it for gout, including all the theories, some diet plans, charts, and other information. It's where I heard the whole acid/base theory.
For me, the biggest help was figuring out what my triggers are. If you ask your doc, they should be able to give you a long list of food to avoid. Basically, everything but wheat bread and water. The thing is, not all those things are triggers for everyone, so you have to find out what sets your gout off. For me, Red meat is a huge no-no. I can't even eat something that's been cooked on the same grill as red meat. Alcohol is another big one for most people. Take a good long look at your diet, and see what you eat that causes the gout attacks, and then treat it like the plague!
Good luck!

I know that this is 3 year old discussion but if you haven't tried some of these cures they might work.. and probably might be cheaper.. http://www.home-remedies-for-you.com/remedy/Gout.html
