NTFS or FAT32  |

|  Which one do you prefer.
Mine is Fat32. I'm going to format. will NTFS make any diffarence?

| |  I don't know the major differences but supposedly NTFS is faster and newer. Besides that I wouldn't know.

| | Thank you. I guess you are right. Ntfs is the newer one and I'm sure they might have fixed the problems in FAT32 and also some faster acess to files. Then I'll be doing it then. I'll change my FAT32 to NTFS. | | | |

| | No Problem, Don't just take my word for it. I think there are some reasons to keep a FAT32, but you'd have to read more on it. If your just using it as a solo hard drive though I think NTFS is the best way to go. | | | |

| |  fat 32 is best recommended and better go for that even though ntfs is fast it is pron to make errors after a small run of period.

| |  NTFS is faster and more stabile tyhan FAT32, but if you have troubles with boot sectors you cannot see a NTFS partition from DOS or another operation sistem.

| |  I must tell you that i don't even know the difference between this two file format. All I know is that I use NTFS. Probably that is the default setting for windosXP installation.

| |  i have formatted my system by fat32. it is better to format the c drive i.e. the drive in which the windows is installed.other than c drive all are in ntfs system.
ntfs causes hanging problems and that's why c drive is formatted in fat32 system.

| | NTFS stands for New Technology File System, a file system used by Windows 2000 onwards to Windows XP and Vista. While FAT32 is just an extension of FAT (or File Allocation Table). This is the same technology used by DOS, Windows 95, 98 and ME. FAT32 doesn't offer enough security and that is the advantage of NTFS. With NTFS you can encrypt your hard drive, so that if your computer gets lost and stolen, they won't be able to read the data in it. Hope that helps. | |  one of the biggest difference in the two systems is, with FAT32, a single file is limited to 1Gb size only, while in NTFS, there's no limit... it is an advantage specially for people who copies DVDs (normally contains 4.5Gb to 9Gb) and doesn't want the file to be broken down into many 1Gb files
