India celebrates 58th Republic day? Explain this ?

Amidst tight security the nation celebrates its 58th Republic Day today. There were unprecedented security in the capital city of Delhi along the venue of rajpath and R-Day parade routes and in parts of the country like J&K and Assam. Earlier the day, the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, President A P J Abdul Kalam, took the salute of the impressive parade in the presence of Chief guest Russian President Vladimir Putin, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and the country's top political and military brass. This was followed by marching contingents and bands of the Armed Forces and the paramilitary forces.
