John Lennon popularly words:do you agree or disagree?  

I think John Lennon just speaks his mind. That's what I admire about him. He's not afraid. And I think it's not offensive when he says that. He's just full of humor maybe.

but let's say that's what he really meant. i would agree.
question is how many people really know the true Jesus Christ?
maybe somehow this is what john has in mind when he made that comment

I think this will be dragged up forever this Jesus Christ thing with John Lennon. The thing is they were way more popular than JC, that's what really annoyed all the stiff's back then. Besides that it was taken out of context. You should listen to Lennons & The Beatles lyrics a little closer, they are often speaking of misunderstanding & ignorance.

John Lennon does not know what he's saying. He sees the big crowds flocking at their concerts and the big sale of their songs and he believes Beatles is that popular.

The Holy Bible has been the best seller of all time, even before John Lennon or any of the members of the Beatles was born. In fact our year A.D. started with the birth of the Lord Jesus Christ and the Lord is referred to as the Man of History.

Nobody would ever be more popular than the Lord Jesus Christ.

John was a very philosophical man, and had no problems speaking his mind. However, as others have already said, what he said and the way he said it was blown completely out of context. I don't think The Beatles (although I love them) were or will ever be as popular as Jesus.

I think if he had said that about Mahoma he would have been prosecuted to death if he were alive, that happens with everybody: Jesus Christ can be discussed, referred to, drawn in a comic strip, and nothing happens. Mahoma is even just side mentioned and an international conflict grows up. It's crazy. However, here there is one more sentence from Lennon, actually the one I really like: "Before Elvis, there was nothing".

I agree with him, not so much that they are more popular in the sense, but more accepted. Those who do not accept Christ, accept the Beatles.

When John made that comment, he was refering to the youth in the U.K. at that moment in time. Personally I think he was right at the time, as the youth were just getting into "pop" music and they paid more attention to the likes of The Beatles than they did to Christ, they would rather go to a gig than go to church.

That comment was said with "tongue in cheek" it wasnt meant to insult or offend anyone and we should remember that John's words were twisted by the news reporter that first published them.

If my memory serves me well, John made the comment prior to The Beatles going on tour of America and when they landed at the airport in the USA, there was a mass of newsmen, photograhers and tv crews waiting for them. John explained carefully that his words had been taken out of context. Towards the end of the interviews, a newsman made a comment and John picked up on it immediately, the newsman was blatantly trying to put words in John's mouth. If any of you have a dvd called "Imagine John Lennon" (not the dvd of the album) you can listen to the interview.

Some of Lennon's remarks did cause widespread discontent,and this remark did cause an outrage against The Beatles.But I think John Lennon was like that ..never afraid to speak out his mind.Inspite of the admiration I have for the superstar I personally feel that he should not have made this remark.He later had to apologise for making such a remark,..and it was after many Beatles record were burnt in the US

I adore the Beatles and John Lennon in particular, but frankly speaking it was a bit foolish to say it. He should have thought it well before telling this. He should have realized that lots of people all over the world would protest it and that these words would have a great negative impact. Nevertheless, I don't like him less because of his words.
