Kids on Leashes!!!!! |
| |
| How do you feel when you see a child with a leash on. I dont personally like it although I understand the purpose of them so you dont lose your child but to me it just looks so degrating. I dont like it. Whats your opinion on it... | | | | | |

| | Yeah, I don't like them myself. It drives me nuts though when I see both the mom and dad out with their ONLY child and they have one of those things on. I might see a family with alot of kids using them, but to only have one child? That's silly. | | | | | | |

| | If I had children, I think that a better way to keep them near you is to take a stroller into the store or wherever else you are going with them. I also think that the leash idea, while it makes a lot of sense I suppose, seems degrading, and if i did have kids I would not like to keep them on a leash at any time unless I saw no other solution. | | | | | | |

| | I would rather see a child on a leash then running around away from their parents... I always get so scared when I see a child by themselves. Even if its only a few feet from their parents.. That one of my fears. someone taking my child... I have never used a leash. I usually just make them hold someones hand or put them in a stroller. | | | | | | |

| | I get scared to when a child isnt close enough to the parent. But I think holding hands is more suitable than the leash. Again I understand the concept of the leash and I think its good idea I just dont like How the leash reminds me of a dog. | | | |

| | the thing with holding hands is that kids let go. holding hands tightly is pretty wrong + in hot weather you would sweat and still break the contact. like i mentioned in my post if it's good enough for dogs then it's fine as a safty feature for children. do you think it's wrong for dogs? | | | |

| | I dont see kids as dogs. So Yes I think its ok for dogs but children are human. I feel like I keep repeating my self but I understand the whole safety reasoning behind the leash and if someone feels that there kid will run away from them then by all means put them on a leash but for me it looks degrating on children. I am not arguing with anyone that uses it if its good for you great its just not for me | | | |

| | I am a mum who uses a leash so I felt I should perhaps put the other side of the argument across. I have a seven month old who I carry in a sling and a three year old who wears a leash. When I am out and about with my partner or 11 year old son we do not use the leash as he holds hands and someone else is there to keep a check on him. When I am out on my own with the two youngest he wears the leash but also holds my hand. My child does understand the importance of holding my hand when we are out, but like any three year old is curious of the world and likes to investigate. It is so easy for a child to pull away from your hand and run into danger, to have the back up of the leash offers peace of mind for me. Not just with the hazzards of traffic, but with dogs and other hazzards. I would rather have my child on a leash, than loose him or have him seriously injured, Just because his inquisitive mind caused him to stray away from me. | | | | | | |

| | I definitely understand the reason why parents use the leash. It does scare me as well having my child run off into danger from me. I just wish there was a diiferent solution. I guess I dont like the way it looks. A child on a leash just seems degrating to me. They never had that when I was growing up. Parents had no choice but to either hold hands, use strollers or carts. I am not putting anyone down who uses them just from my opinion I dont like them | | | |

| | I cant stand it, I think if you cant hold on to your kids than dont bring them to the store. Put them in the cart or wait till someone can watch them while you are out. | | | | | | |

| | Whilst your view may be valid, many people don't have the luxury of having other people to watch there children. If I had to wait for my partner to get home before taking my children out, They would only be able to leave the house at the weekends, which isn't really good for them or for me. Surely having a child on a leash is better than allowing them to run wild. Being from the UK, when I was growing up you never saw a toddler without reins (a leash), So perhaps I'm just a little old fashioned in my view. | | | |

| | I do see your point as I dont often have someone to watch them but I dont agree with the leash, I put all 3 of them in the cart or make them hold on to the cart. If they let go they go back in it. I would never tie up my child like a dog. | | | |

| | I don't like to do it, but I have a granddaughter that takes off running the minute her feet hit the floor. She's 17 months old and weighs 24lbs. I carry her as long as I can, but I need the leash for when I am finally exhausted and have to put her down. In a store with carts, I use the cart. But lots of stores don't have carts and I have to carry her. | | | | | | |

| | Personally i think it's good when it's done for the right reasons. if the kids prone to run off etc it's good to see parents control 'em. (if it's good enough for vicky it's good enough for our kids) i meant dogs sorry. If it's done because the parents are controlling the kids and use it to beat 'em and keep the child in distance. (which i have seen) well thats nearly as bad as vickys lies. ~Joey | | | | | | |

| | I used a leash. Big deal. My son was a hider and a runner. He was very active and did not like the stroller. He had to be double or triple belted in...He would slide out. While shopping, all you had to do was let go of him for 2 seconds to look at something. And he hid, in racks, under racks. Back in the old days when they used milk cartons to post pictures of missing kids...I used to tell people - better on a leash then on a milk carton. The leash gave him a little room to wander. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, degrading is as well. A parent does what they need to control their children. And if the child can get some freedom with a leash, they do not scream because they are confined and the parents can get done what they need to do, then it is the right thing for them. | | | | | | |

| | I actually enjoyed your response thank you. I agree with you better on a leash than on a milk carton. You worded everything really good. And your right eveyone has to do whats good for them. I couldnt agree with you more on that | | | |

| | We used one when my SD was little. She hated to hold hands and always wanted to walk. But she couldn't follow where we were while she looked at stuff and she'd end up wandering the other way. We got a little harness, and she was able to walk on her own but not get away from us. It worked great for us. She's 12 now and hasn't suffered any long term effects from it. :-) | | | | | | |

| | i would never put my kid on a leash. that is what strollers, and carts in the stores are for. so you dont loose your kids. i think its very wrong. i mean if you have like triplets or something then i guess you dont have much else choice. but one child, you'd think they could manage to watch. | | | | | | |
