Fear of shoes! |
|
My two year old boy has just developed a weird fear of his shoes, partiuclarly new ones. When you put his shoes on he becomes frozen on the spot and refuses to move while he screams and cries. I have checked the fit of the shoe, which is OK. He will happily wear his old shoes (until he remembers whatever it is he is scared about) and then the drama starts all over again. I have just spent 25 minutes trying to get him to play outside with his new shoes on to no avail! Help! Is this normal?

classicaljazz (1608) | 3 years ago | I wonder if when they were wet they pinched his feet or if at one time there was a bug or something in his shoe? Also check the inside of his new shoes with your hand for anything sharp, a piece of the plastic tag or some stitching that wasn't cut, just a thought. Other than that, what does he say when you ask him what is wrong? I know that his communication skills are still developing but it might be a clue. Also hand him the new shoes and watch what he does with them for any other clues.

If he is hysterical, he will just demand to be picked up or cuddled and won't accept his shoes. Thanks for your thoughts so far - I will check the shoes more thoroughly. Also, he does something similar with his sleeping suit, which has rubber paw prints on the feet to prevent slipping. I'm assuming because they make a squeaky sound on the wooden floorboards, he is reacting in the same way as he does with his shoes.

classicaljazz (1608) | 3 years ago | Intresting. Are there any other textiles he reacts to?

| kerrie (1) | 3 years ago | not that I can think of. He doesn't like dirty hands and recently had a thing about bits of clothes fluff (as in he didn't like them floating in his bath). I'm wondering whether my little man is a bit anal!

classicaljazz (1608) | 3 years ago | Awww, no worries, we are all a quirky aren't we? I have one that can't stand to be dirty or walk barefoot in the grass and another one that tries to bite the cat, what can I say? Maybe he doesn't like his new shoes because he doesn't like change?

| kerrie (1) | 3 years ago | thanks for making me laugh about this! As I'm sure you know, it can be very tiring trying to work out what is wrong!

classicaljazz (1608) | 3 years ago | I know. Mine are 8 and 6 months, believe me I know. hang in there though, the best moms are the ones that try to find the answers. Glad you could laugh about it. Kids are great for helping us not to take ourselves so seriously!

| kerrie (1) | 3 years ago | He does have flat feet so we have been getting his shoes professionally fitted etc. My partner and I think we may be on to something based on last night...we put his shoes on with bare feet and noticed the side of his new sneaker is sitting right underneath the ankle bone. He's fine sitting in his new sneakers but as soon as he stands up, he starts crying. We are thinking they are causing him pain because the shoe is pushing on that bone. Hmm...

QnAQueen (553) | 3 years ago | at least it looks like you are getting to the root cause of all this! poor thing, i hope he doesn't develop a lifelong phobia for shoes....keep us posted as to what you find out and what the solutions are...maybe the professionally fitted shoes WILL help... i have a son who isn't walking yet, so there may be something to learn here, well, if not for me, then maybe for other parents out there....

4. bossdk (334) | 3 years ago | What is DRAMA? Drama comes from Greek words meaning "to do" or "to act." A play is a story acted out. It shows people going through some eventful period in their lives, seriously or humorously. The speech and action of a play recreate the flow of human life. A play comes fully to life only on the stage. On the stage it combines many arts those of the author, director, actor, designer, and others. Dramatic performance involves an intricate process of rehearsal based upon imagery inherent in the dramatic text. A playwright first invents a drama out of mental imagery. The dramatic text presents the drama as a range of verbal imagery. The language of drama can range between great extremes: on the one hand, an intensely theatrical and ritualistic manner; and on the other, an almost exact reproduction of real life. A dramatic monologue is a type of lyrical poem or narrative piece that has a person speaking to a select listener and revealing his character in a dramatic situation
