What do you think of pageant girls?

I watched the end of Miss America, and I have to say that Miss Oklahoma is just adorable. Congrats to her! But it made me think of all the pageant girls I've known. What do you think of pageant girls? Love them? Do you think they actually make a difference in the world? I worked with one when I was an intern at this huge financial firm. Granted, she was Miss (State), so she'd won a lot of pageants, but her desk was like a shrine to herself. Her desktop, stationary, even her post-it notes that she attached to memos were custom-made portraits of her face. That's carrying it a bit too far, isn't it? Now I'm not bashing them. My cousin was one, and she's the most down-to-earth girl I know. Just wonder what you think?
