local beauty shopping

does anyone buy beauty products from local businesses instead of huge chains? apparently it helps the environment and local economy. would they not be less quality and more expensive though? i heard sienna miller buys skincare and bath products this way.

I buy most of my beauty stuff at Wal-mart and Target. I pretty much would go to whichever is closer to where I am going, to get what I want.
