The Highlight of Your Town - What Not to Miss |
| |
| If I and my family were tourists in your town, what would you recommend we see and do in your town? What are the fun things that your town and surrounding areas offer? Can you entertain us for a week? I live in Las Vegas, Nevada. I challenge you to come to my town. I can keep you busy. But bring lots of money! You will want to buy lots of beautiful things. We have lots of places to shop. You can check into any one of our luxury hotels along our Las Vegas Strip - each one has a different theme, so tell me what you like. Dinner and a show. No problem. Buffet? All you can eat. All day. Golf. Lots of it. Tennis? We have Aggasi, remember? A day of beauty? Spa in every hotel. Fun for the kids? Some of the casinos provides kid entertainment. Take a helicopter ride over the city. Go see Hoover Dam. The Grand Canyon is not that far away. Feeling lucky? Slot machines everywhere you turn. Lots of gaming tables. And you haven't even gone where the locals go, yet. | | | | | |

| | It does sound a nice place. The highlight of my city in England would most likely be historic buildings if you look hard enough, nothing famous though. Silk mills, industrial places. Though my favourite places would be the countryside not to far from the city, and the parks, castle, and I wouldn't let anyone leave until I've taken them to a proper football match! | | | | | | |

| | Sounds wonderful. I love beautiful countrysides and parks. God's country, I call it. Food tastes better in the country. People are usually friendlier in the country. Silk mills? Beautiful fabrics? I would probably try to bring yards and yards home with me. The thought of entering a real castle excites me. My husband would enjoy the football match. That would complete his vacation. Thank you for a wonderful time. | | | |

| | well Ellsworth/Bentleyville is a rather small town. There isn't much to do around here. I mean we only have 1 stoplight. Pittsburgh is the closest city so I recommend going to Station Square and eat at the hard rock, and visit Bessamer Court which has a water and light show. You can ride the Incline up to Mnt. Washington and look at the city all light up. | | | | | | |

| | Thank you for your response. One stoplight! That's smaller than the town I grew up in and when I was a kid I thought that was the smallest town ever. I think I plotted my escape from birth. Of course I now realize it was because I was an only child and smothered to death. It wasn't the town, it was my parents over-protecting me. Now that I'm older, I remember the good things about my ome town - the warm, friendly people, the good neighbors,a restaurant that has the best catfish this side of the Mississippi, the best drinking water in the world, the sweetest fruit trees and the prettiest Christmas decorations. Sounds like we rest in your town and venture out to surrounding areas. That works for me. Water and light shows are great. Rides up the mountain are always fun. City lights are always romantic.Food at new places is always a treat. Thank you for a lovely time. | | | |

| | Sounds cruel and inhuman. If anyone needs a vacation, its you. Thanks for the warning. I will stay away from Selfridge, MI. Maybe you can read some of these posts and be somewhere else in your dreams. How long will you be there? Is there any relief in sight? God bless. | | | |

| | Thank you for your response. You've got all the makings of a fun time. A seat on the 50 yard line! Up close and personal with the team! You can't beat that. My husband will think he died and went to heaven. Pizza and beer are the ideal toppers for any game. The next night I'm looking forward to that lovely hayride around the scenic mountains and valleys in a place where there is foilage and it actually changes colors to reflect the season; unlike our desert in Nevada. Beautiful! And let us not forget the food! You have not visited a place until you have tasted the local food. The most appealing thing about your town is the warmth that comes through. This must be a great place to raise kids. | | | |

| | a seat on the 50? nope..............a seat on the bench with the players and staff. make sure he dresses warm, it's probably the most cold place in town. and if you hurry, it's homecoming week. we're having our faculty walk friday after school, there's a semi formal friday night, a parade with floats saturday night and then on to the game. does he want to ride the faculty float, freshman, sophmore, jr. or senior float? my daughter is a sophomore, so my husband and i are helping with that one. and pack navy and white clothes for the school colors!!! | | | |

| | Um well...there is a big steel building that houses all ths snow plows....the only gas station and mini mart..if you miss that you have missed the town completely...but enoy the pine trees along the way to the next town... | | | | | | |

| | Thank you for your response. LOL. That big steel building tells me something. Don't get caught driving through your town in the winter months when it snows or we may need snow chains. Is this one of those towns with back-to-back signs "Welcome to" and "You are now leaving?" We'll wave as we go by. | | | |

| | Other than the wonderful traffic the only thing really worth seeing in my town is the lake that you'd never know was there. I'd lived here 18 years before I knew there was a lake, but once I found it, it became my favorite place. It's hidden in the woodsy hills, and about a mile into it and there is the lake, all pretty and undisturbed. | | | | | | |

| | I like to tell people to visit a small town I grew up in, East Aurora, Ny. It's where Elbert Hubbard started the Arts and Crafts movement in U.S.A. He wrote A Message to Garcia, and was one of the first men to hire women to work for him. I also love to take people to Niagara Falls which is north from here. And to the south, I take them through Amish villages. | | | | | | |

| | Thank you for your response. Ummm...Arts and Crafts. Sounds like I can pick up a lot of unique items. The Amish are known for their cooking. That's good. Niagara Falls - famous romantic spot. All good. Thanks for a wonderful time. | | | |

| | It's not the arts and crafts most people think of. It's Mission style furniture, books and tapestry with philosophy. You may have known what I was talking about because I know it is quite popular in California. For me it's become a passion. http://www.roycrofter.com/ You have to stay at The Roycroft Inn, where I used to be the baker and prepared the continental breakfast. Or at least take a tour. http://www.roycroftinn.com/ | | | |

| | Love the epigrams at this site. The Roycroft Inn is certainly on my list of places to go. Thanks for the tip. Breads are a weakness of mine. A side issue. I knew a baker who had no fingerprints. He had burned his fingertips so badly. Is this a problem with you? | | | |
