Does anybody here still play board games, card games, things like that offline? The not-video-or-computer-games? What are some of your favorites? We play a bunch of them -- Trivial Pursuit is one of my favorites, then we have a couple of card games -- Kings In the Corner and Phase 10.

I also love Balderdash and Scrabble. Tell me about some of your favorites!

There are games that I like to play, and games that we actually do play. I love word games but English is not my husband's first language so he is not so good at it. My girls are 10 and 13 so I pretty much win games like Boggle every time. We got Mad Gap for Christmas and played it a lot over the holidays. We had a great time laughing. We also play Dominoes, cards, Clue, Connect 4, Battleship and Rummy-O.

We get frustrated though when the same person always wins. Like DH always wins Rummy-O. We don't even want to play with him anymore. LOL! We also have handheld games like Tetris, Wheel of Fortune, Sudoku and whatever it is THEY play on a handheld Gameboy.

We get some games at garage sales, others as gifts.

We do! we do! can you see me waving my hand in the air. Not so much when it is just hubby and me, but if we visit my brother, we play whatever new game he has, plus card games, plus Uno, and Uno attack. My hubby likes chess, I think as part of celebrating Valentine month, I will make sure we get a game in. I am a mean scrabble player. One of our all time favorites is called "Whatsit" It is the type of game that has pictures or divided words, and you have to figure out what phrase it is representing.[ example: oholene= hole in one] I play with my grandkids that are old enough. I remember learning to play dominos with both of my grandfathers.

You simply cannot play ANY game at our house unless you have a sense of humour. You've all heard about the folks that get upset when they loose and the cards go flying and the boardgame gets tossed across the room. Well get over yourself and start laughing or you will be crying alone!
My 73 year old mother is a notorious cheater!!!! I've told this story before but here goes again.

She is sooo sly and ingenious. Take last Friday, our usual card night. We are playing UNO and my mother knows I need a certain card in order to beat my husband. The next thing I know she is pinching me with her toes under the table. She had somehow managed to take her socks off without anyone noticing. She had put the card I needed between the toes of her other foot and was trying to pass it to me under the table.

After so many years of cheating she could maintain the perfect poker face. But when I saw those 73 year old "piggies" all curled up and desperate to hold onto that card I lost total control. I laughed untill the tears were streaming down my face. Everyone else was laughing not knowing why I was just beside myself.

My mother is chirpping "let's finish the game" in the background. I think she was getting a cramp in her toes. Needless to say I beat my husband.

Before you judge my mother, her motto has always been that their is enough competition in the world and a game is supposed to be fun. My children knew growing up that this cheating thing was not allowed at anyone else's home. But we always had fun trying to think up what cheat we were going to pull next.

Every time you post, I think about how great we would get along! We laugh so much when my sister & her girls and/or my kids (adults) are here playing games. One of our neighbors calls over and teases us by telling us we had better pipe down or she is calling the cops. LOL, we have so much fun! I feel sorry for families that can't have fun together. The only real experience I've had with sore losers is when I won about 50 games of Kismet in a row and my exhusband knocked the game across the room and stomped upstairs. It wasn't like him, to be fair, though, lol. He normally has a great sense of humor -- in fact he's a humor columnist. That time, it just got to him, lol.

That's hilarious! Reminds me of a game I forgot, called "Pit". It's an old card game, based on the stock market, so you trade for "oats' "wheat" "corn" etc, and want the bull, but not the bear, but you end up shouting, to trade your cards, by number, "two!" "two" "three!" - Last time we played at my folk's camp, soon the neighbors next door were looking out their windows at us wondering what the heck we were doing!

Another time we were playing poker - dealer's choice. and when it was my husband's choice, he chose "Indian poker" which my brothers had never heard of. If you don't know, for Indian poker, you get one card, don't look at it, but hold it on your forehead, then everyone bets on their card. But everyone can see if you hacve a two or something, and are betting on it! My brothers thought this was hilarious!

Haha childe, that's funny! I've heard of the game "Pit" but never played it.

My sister and I used to play a card game called "Slapjack" and I can't remember how to play it. I do know my mother hated it because obviously we'd try to smack the holy cr*p out of eachother lol.

oh yes, cards are the easiest to have around and play some solitaire, some poker and some other card games. We still have the chess set and scrabble, goggle, if you have that in your place.

there are also games in the computer but, I enjoy being in myLot than playing with the computer game. responding and discussing issues here in myLot replaced the games for me.
It serves the same purpose and more, I enjoy myself, kill time, and earn. Ain't that a better thing to do?

I have a few different scrabble sets. I would love to get the scooby doo one, but they don't seem to sell it in this country.
I like playing scrabble but most poeple wont play with me as i usually win.

A few years ago, "Trivial Pursuit" was all the rage here in the UK, and everyone used to play it all the time. Now it seems to have lost popularlity a bit, in fact card and board games are losing popularity too. In a way it is a shame because it was a good way for the family to get together and have some harmless fun. My partner plays poker with his friendssometimes, but I tend not to get involved with their "boys' nights"!

When my family was here in town we were playing quite a few games with my nephew and niece. We played Candyland and also this spaghetti board game. Trivial Pursuit is popular in my family as well and Scrabble is another popular board game here. This game has a lot of twists and turns in it.
