New Cars: Ford Edge, BMW X5, Yamaha V Star and More  

Take the best attributes of a minivan, an SUV and a large sedan, put them all together in one vehicle, and you get a sense of what the Ford Edge is all about. The driver sits high, like in an SUV, while the wide dash gives the feeling of a minivan, albeit one with hinged rear doors. The interior is cavernous and features a handy fold-flat front passenger seat that enhances the minivan ambience. Add in the Edge's 265-hp 3.5-liter V6 engine, six-speed automatic transmission, stability control and available all-wheel drive, and the Edge emulates other utility vehicles. But that's not the final word. While we were driving the Edge along the twisting roads of the California wine country, north of San Francisco, the suspension's compliance and agility, and the passenger cabin's quiet ride calmly declared "family sedan."
