Skywalk—a giant, 30-million-dollar steel-and-glass walkway!!!!! | | Source-Nat. Geo. (Text Edited by me) Members of a Native American group based in a remote part of Arizona are hoping to entice more tourists by inviting visitors to step off the edge of the Grand Canyon. The 1,500-members of a Native American group based in a remote part of Arizona (Hualapai tribe: "People of the Tall Pines") announced last week that the Skywalk—a giant, 30-million-dollar steel-and-glass walkway—will open to the public in March 2007. The Skywalk will jut out 21 meters from the canyon rim, allowing tourists to go for a stroll with nothing between their feet and the Colorado River—1,220 meters below—except for ten centimeters of glass. The Hualapai are working with the Las Vegas, Nevada-based Destination Grand Canyon to market the Skywalk and draw in valuable tourist dollars. Bravo, who serves as operations manager for the tribe's tourist hub, says other tribes can rely on gaming to support their people, but the Skywalk is the answer for the Hualapai. This is what's going to feed our tribe. California businessman David Jin was first inspired to build the Skywalk in 1996 after taking a tour of the canyon According to the Associated Press, the Hualapai tribe will own the Skywalk, but Jin will collect up to half of the money from ticket sales for the next 25 years. Friends see the photo and tell me if you found this information useful/ interesting.

After reading your posts I went to google for the search and yes I found about this skyway.March 28 2007 is announced as the opening date of the skyway. And yes it was the dream of Davind Jin to look into the Grand Canyon in the way as an Eagle does. SOURCE: http://www.grandcanyonsky... to The Skywalk will run from dawn to dusk and will cost $25 per person in addition to the cost of a Grand Canyon West (a destination owned and operated by the Hualapai Tribe at the Grand Canyon’s western rim) entrance package. One hundred and twenty people will be allowed on the bridge at a time. Admittance is first come, first serve for walk up visitors; however, reservations can be made. Guests will enter and exit the walkway via temporary buildings while the adjacent visitor’s center is being completed. Grand Canyon West plans to issue numbered shoe covers – in order to avoid scratches and slipping - to each visitor that enters the open-air walkway. Located at Grand Canyon West’s Eagle Point, The Skywalk facility will also include a 6,000 square-foot visitor’s center on three levels – underground, first story and second story – which will contain a museum, movie theater, VIP lounge, gift shop, and several restaurants and bars, including a high-end restaurant called The Skywalk Café that will offer outdoor patio and rooftop seating on the edge of the canyon. The second story will be where visitors can access The Skywalk glass walkway. The visitor’s center will also offer private indoor and outdoor facilities for meetings, special events and weddings
