fed up with unsafe high chairs |
| |
| Ok I'm getting really tired of this. Whenever we go out to eat at a restaurant, the waiters bring us a high chair without even making sure it has workable straps and more times then not, they are broken. At places where you pick your own high chair from a stack of them, we ususally have to look at three or four of them before finding one that doesnt have a broken strap. Why dont restaurants ever fix their high chairs?? | | | | | |

| | I don't think they will =( I hate restaurant highchairs! In addition to usually being broken, they are also usually disgusting and filthy! I have a high chair cover with my own straps for this very purpose. Perhaps you can buy one that includes your own straps so you don't have to worry about the dirty broken high chairs. | | | | | | |

| | OMG yes I forgot to mention about the filthiness of the chairs, and the broken carts in the store and so forth. We do have a travel high chair so I might start bringing that with us everywhere lol | | | |

| | Even though I don't have children, I have to agree. The straps are broken, the chairs are dirty. Well, I think that the only way to get it solved is (a) make sure you bring your own car seat that could be placed on the highchair and/or shopping cart or (b) complain to someone at the grocery store or restaurant about this matter. You know, I think when people voice their opinion to other people of authority (perhaps management of the grocery store or restaurant or even the corporate office) will these problems changes. I don't think companies want to have angry customers, right?

| | I would assume it is because they don't have to. everytime you see a broken chair you should report it to the management (who is probably not even aware fo the issues). My borther ended up buying a travel highchair for my nephew because they had so many issue with highchairs when they would go out to eat. | | | | | | |

| | I never noticed this until I had a baby. We get the same thing all the time. We make it a point to get one that works, even if we have to get it ourselves and make a scene. I think that the restaurant people just don't notice, or realize what a problem it can be. My son is 14 months and needs a strap or else he'll try to turn around. I've been around older kids who know to sit still and don't need the strap. It's just not top priority for them to be fixed. I've also noticed the seatbelts on lots of shopping carts are missing or broken. I hate that too! | | | | | | |

| | Not only the broken straps, but do they ever REALLY clean them? I always have to go through 4-5 of them just to find one that is not sticky and caked with old food!!! And this is even at really nice restaurants. It's rediculous!! And what about shopping carts? OMG!!! | | | | | | |

| | That is one thing that you can do.....if it is a franchise.....you can call the main office and complain.....if it not a franchise, just 1 owner, you can call the healt dept and complain if the owner does not listen to you. But any place you eat at, it is required that things (especially that is designed for children) actually work and are safe......due to lawsuits. | | | | | | |

| | I agree with this statement...however, I would like to know who the customers are that break these high chairs. I have NEVER broken something that doesn't belong to me. I can't understand how people do these things. | | | | | | |

| | What may be happening here is there is no one person or family, just a number of uses of the chairs. Every one knows that the more things are used buy different people have wear and tear....and it is up to the resturant to keep up on the maintence on the chairs. And if they do not, then yes, you have every right to turn them in, because if a child is hurt, they can be sued big time!! | | | |

| | Myabe they can't be fixed & they do not want to invest the money to replace them. I think they would be held liable if your child got hurt though. That is why I am glad I got a booster chair type one. It just goes on a regular chair, that way I know it will be safe. | | | | | | |

| | I always hated putting my daughter in restaraunt high charis if you could find one that had straps the straps were always so filthy you wouldn't want to touch them! I always wiped them down with the bacteraial wipes I carried around so my daughter would not catch the cold of the child that would sit in the chair before her that had a runny nose and terrible cough yet their parents weren't smart enough to keep them at home too. I am glad she is old enough to sit in a booth now! | | | | | | |

| | Yeah, I absolutely hate that. We have one of those high chair covers that just velcros over most highchairs. It's much cleaner than the nasty ones at most restaurants. We love it because it just stays in the diaper bag (except of course we take it out to wash it when it needs it). Unfortunately, though, it doesn't fit all high chairs. And then we are stuck using the restaurant ones without the extra protection. Shopping carts are just as bad, too. Or sometimes worse. We have a thing that fits in those with straps, too. But it doesn't work for big shopping carts. We pulled out seven shopping carts at Menards the other day before we finally found one with two straps! It's just so crazy! | | | | | | |
