The Naked Truth: Is "artistic" nude photography really art?

I guess it would depend..there's a line I guess between 'an element' of it and it being purely that.

Nudity if tastefully done for me is artistic.I have taken a nude photo and for me its self expression of your subject or a person's body.Its also how the viewer sees ur phorograph,its a perception thing.

Art photography is usually black and white.

A nude model in art photography is usually similar to a statue with no sexual tone.

If you look at a nude model in a photo... most of the sexuality comes from the face expression... not from the body.

Now... I cannot argue with the fact that most teenagers will get turned on by any nude photo of a female... including an art photo. That is only because they have not seen many and it is all new to them.

But from an Adult point of view... I don't think we would find it all that sexual... unless we knew the model as a celebrity and we had a crush on her.

In any case... I cannot recall meeting any man having a problem with female nudity. It is always the women who object to it. How can a woman be offended by female nudity? She is not... she simply don't want her man to see it.

Of course nudity is photography can be purely artistic. There is nothing bad about the human body, and if done tastefully there is no reason why any picture cannot be considered art, even erotic photography. Now sure outright nasty porn isn't art it serves one purpose and one purpose only, but that doesn't mean a picture can't be both sexy and artistic.

I think it can be art. The human body is not solely a sex object. I have posed for somewhat artistic nude photos before. And I'd take artistic nude photos as well if asked. I wouldn't advertise it or something, but if my friends wanted nude photos, I'd take some.

I never took or posed for nude photos, it's better not to try....:-) but I like drawing and painting and maybe in future I could take a photo of me nude for my anatomic studies, I love human anatomy and I always copy models from books and magazines.
I don't think nudity in photography could be pornographic, human body is an excellent "object", that usually inspires good sentiments.

I'd have to say it depends on the photographer's intentions. An object's image can be taken with so many different angles and point of perspectives, and after it's printed, depends on the viewer how they view the work.
You can see the difference between nude painting in the art gallery and on adult magazines. They are both nude, but you won't get turned on by an oil painting as mucha s adult magazines will. Plus, if the viewer is a religious person, they will condemn both works as tabboo, while an artist would say "it's a work of art".
