Is Multi-Level Marketing a Good Way for Product Distribution? |
|
Can you make money with it or do you buy into the argument that it's too easy to run out of people to sell to?
I agree that a lot of them are nothing more than an excuse to have a Ponzi Scheme, but will it work if the structure is fair and the prices are not inflated to support the compensation plan?
I think it's one of the few ways someone with little experience and very little to invest can still build a good income if they work at it.
What do you think?

hometyme (144) | 3 years ago | You probably did not do things wrong. They seem to be designed to where you have to buy your positions in order to earn. The First levels should pay MUCH better and the product should have value that cannot be acquired elsewhere.

oldbuddy (5748) | 3 years ago | What you want is to turn it into a commissioned sales job, which kills the leverage an MLM supplies. Many producers are turning to MLM because it produces pro-active distributors instead of putting product passively on a shelf and waiting for someone to pick it up on impulse. The cost of distribution is lower because product is only shipped on demand and avoids the slippage normally found in shelf sales. It also eliminates advertising expenses in favor of free word-of-mouth advertising.

2. Jaytech (645) | 3 years ago | I've had a small amount of success dabbling with MLM, i've found that my downlines tend to sit there waiting for other people to put members under them.
I've fallen for the typical programs when I got started like GDI & SFI too, but couldn't even get signups for them.

|
oldbuddy (5748) | 3 years ago | That doesn't surprise me, they are among the hardest to promote from my experience too. The problem is the value is not there so they are really an excuse for a Ponzi like I mentioned.

3. krishkorp (331) | 3 years ago | though on the outset it looks lucrative as it is shown, but has many disadvantages as we have to keep referencing and then they also have to be active for us to make any money and in some way the earning we do is because of other person's work which is not quite reliable.

4. WebMann (2765) | 3 years ago | I usually get a laugh when people figure they are going to run out of people.
I certainly believe multi-level marketing works and when structured properly can go indefinitely or at least until we all stop having babies to replace the old guys like us that will not likely be here in another 50 years.
I can get pretty excited about things and I do tend to jump into things but I am also quite willing to accept full responsiblity for being the way I am and I don't blame the program, usually, when I didn't do my due diligence.
I have a program that I am hyped up about and so is my wife, but she is pumped because this could be something we will do together when she retires next year. But before we get into I was going to pass it by you because you have a level head.:)
Multi-Level Marketing is, in my opinion, the best way to distrubute products and earn while you're doing it.

hometyme (144) | 3 years ago | Why should one have to purchase a privilege to sell anyone's product?
Does one need to purchase some bonus packs to get commissions above pitance?
| |
|
|
oldbuddy (5748) | 3 years ago | No one said anything about purchasing a privilege to do anything. All I ever buy is the product itself and only what I need for myself.

5. cheapbooks4u (332) | 3 years ago | I agree with you. I use to be an independent distributor of Watkins products. I enjoyed selling the products more than I did the business though, but that is just me. MLM can work great and I am glad I tried it and may do it again sometime.

6. easyliving (1541) | 3 years ago | Any time you have to depend on the efforts of others you loose control of what the end results are.Personally I do not like programs that feed off of others. You are right it is not much better than a ponzi. Most are eventually doomed for failure because the prices have to remain high to support the compensation plan. After awhile people just cant afford to pay there membersip, automatic distribution fees, etc. They fee the newbie to death and every month they get farther in the hole until they evenutally just fade away. Been there and done that. NO More. I want a real company with a real product where my pay is determined on my efforts and not some one elses.

oldbuddy (5748) | 3 years ago | Very good assessment of MOST of the bad ones, but your scenario does not have to be the only case.
First saying they feed off others just because they pay an override commission is not accurate. If the plan is set up so anyone can just be a customer and never go any further if they choose not to, how can that be feeding off anyone?
The jacked up prices is common, but not always the case, as are the fees and membership costs. I happen to use one that sells product for the exact same price I paid in my local outlet before I found them and there are no extra fees ever, not even shipping.
If your pay is determined on only your own efforts, you will be limited in how far you can go by your own time constraints. I prefer to have thousands of tiny fingers doing my work as opposed to me putting my shoulder to the wheel.
Just some thoughts.

hometyme (144) | 3 years ago | Easyliving, I agree. An MLM should be a product with a plan instead of simply a plan looking for a product. Too many of them want you to fill the garage before you can get into a commission level high enough to survive. If one must recruit continually to keep it alive, then it's NOT product driven. It's a recruiting business! I've seen many people say you can walk away and experience residual income. How many reach the high commission rate levels? FEW! I'd love to join an FREE-to-join MLM with a good product and pay plan that pays enough on the first and second levels to be interesting. I've never seen one.

oldbuddy (5748) | 3 years ago | Only because you have your eyes closed to the facts and focus on silly percentages instead of the product you seem to care so much about. If all the commission was on the first level there would be no leverage and that's where the benefit of such a plan is. If you just want a job as a straight commissioned salesperson, then be an affiliate for some good product.

7. Willowlady (8982) | 3 years ago | Multi-level marketing has always turned me off trying it since I do not socialize to sell. I am more of a store type lady. I have the product and either others want it or not. That depends on advertising. So with a bit of tutoring this method applied in the manner in which you have just shared would be a way for me to begin. Willing to work, just need guidance to get it off the ground!!
| |
| |
|
|
oldbuddy (5748) | 3 years ago | I guess it depends on your definition of selling. If you share a bargain you found with a friend, is that selling? You probably do that already, you just don't get paid for it.

8. 34momma (4836) | 3 years ago | i think if you are working with a MLM that is little investment, with nice returns you can do well. it is easier for someone to invest say $5 a week, then $39. anything worht having is possible if you believe that you can do it
| |
| |
|
|
oldbuddy (5748) | 3 years ago | The part that scares me about your comment, is it sounds like you would invest only for the money it could make you. I would think the main reason would be for the product and the money would be a nice bonus.
| |
|
|
hometyme (144) | 3 years ago | I believe if the MLMer were selling a renewable consumed product and earning a decent first level commission on it with smaller commissions going to the upper levels, the distributor could still earn a lot of money and the exponential growth that would come closer to happening in the upper levels could indeed amount to a lot of money and residual income. The new recruit could then have some incentive to purchase and use the product, as well as to tell his neightbor(s) instead of sell(ing) to his neighbors. Otherwise, it, again, is just a "program looking for a product".
| |
|
|
oldbuddy (5748) | 3 years ago | What's wrong with someone who just wants to use the product because it's good and likes the home delivery? Even if he never signs up a single customer or distributor, it still can meet his needs as long as it's not overpriced.
