Do You Push The Imaginary Brake?

i cant sit in the back of a car or as a passenger in the front.i put it down to the fact that i have been driving for nearly 30 years.its not that i dont trust the driver,its just that i am not good in any car when i am not in control.

It drives my boyfriend nuts, As I havent even passed my test! lol

Don't feel bad I'm always doing the same thing or I'll go oh did you see that fool.....My hubby get's so mad at he that he yells at me not to do that....It really upsets him says he's going to have to put a new floor board in the car if I don't stop it......

I've done simular things and i'm just weird. (no offense to you) i really think if i thought a crash was about to happen i probably would because it's our reaction to do this.

Panic and in that moment we do what any normal person would which is push a brake as we want to remain save or at least this is my take.

I've done that many times before. I've also worn out the handles on many pasanger doors. I'm one who has a real hard time riding.

:( You mean there isn't a brake on the passenger side of the car? Telling me this is worse than when I found out there was no Santa. Seriously, years back when I got a new car the first thing I did was go out on the back roads and see how fast it would go - until 12 years ago when I rolled a car doing 45 miles per hour. The car was totalled, I walked away but felt it for weeks, and I slowed waaaaay down.

Because of that I have become very afraid of speed and want to slow everyone in the world down. My two oldest sons have each at different times said to me when they were driving, "Mom take your foot off the brake" (that one on the passenger side) and my daughter is always saying, "Sorry Mom I'll slow down".

I do this-- I even go so far as to reach out for the dash board like I'm afraid-- Or grab onto the Oh Crap handle and say watch out- LOL I'm a real joy to ride with-- But then again my sig. other does the same- He almost nevers rides with me-- he always drives. He says I follow to close, drive too fast, slow down to late, etc. It's a wonder that I can even drive. I think alot of us push that imaginary brake. I'll probably never stop!

Oh yeah. I have two teen drivers, you can bet I am all over that brake. (car's been to the shop twice for brake pads! HaHa JK) As posters before me have said, I fully believe that it is a control issue. It feels really weird to be sitting there at the mercy of that other person. Also it might just be reflex,..as if you were the one driving (kind of like if something drops, you reflexively go to catch it!)

I do this every time we go somewhere in the car. My husband always insists on driving, even though he knows I'm a nervous wreck when I'm the passenger. I've discovered that if I put my head back and close my eyes, I can usually fall half-asleep, which stops me from gasping and hitting that imaginary brake while he's driving. I have to do this most when we are driving in town or on a four-lane highway.

I think everyone must do that!! lol I do, all my sisters do, my parents do/did. So it's definitely NOT just you!:-)
I can't stand to be the passenger in the car so I don't have to worry about it too often. I'm also very paranoid when I'm not the one driving and not only do I hit the imaginary break but I'll frantically grab the dash too if they stop quickly or I think they aren't doing something right, lol....so just be glad you only do the brake thing!!!
