True grit with John Wayne!
get off yer horse and drink yer milk and all that stuff, they don't really make these types of films anymore.

Does Westworld count? I know it's sci-fi but hey it did feature Yul Brynner and he was a great actor and did star in quite a few westerns. I don't particularly like Westerns to be honest and I know people rate John Wayne but I think he's irritating and certainly not the best actor. As I kid I do remember programmes like Rawhide, Bonanza and Paint Your Wagon mind you Lee Marvin was another guy I couldn't hack.

myLot reputation of 81/100. jimbo45 (9455)  1 year ago

westworld does count, ace film,i agree.old baldy was better in that than in the king and i.john wayne wasnt the best actor, thats true, but perhaps thats why he was good, because he was real.lee marvin,he was even uglier than hank marvin.

I don't know the titles.

I used to watch 'em as a kid when they used to be on channel four, i still do sometimes. I like the films clint eastwoods in but i personally don't like him or his acting. (i've always thought he was other rated)

The movie i liked the most he was in. for all i know it could be the above. (i really don't know)

But he goes and has a shoot out with a few other cowboys as they try to rid the place of the crook's. i forget the rest so it's probably not much help. hehe=)

joey, clint eastwood wasnt over rated.he was the best at what he did.a lot better than these sissy boy actors of today.he nade the spaghetti western.clever character actor.sit down one night with a fitful of dollars, thats a good film.then watch a few dollars more.they are ace.then if you are still not convinced about clint-go get all the dirty harry films.ace.honest.then,if your still not convinced,go and get the ones he was in with the monkey.funny as hell.why cant i recall the names of them.must be getting old.

For me it would be a toss up between El Dorado and Rio Bravo. Both are John Wayne movies and they both have very similar story lines. One though has Robert Mitchum and James Caan while the other has Dean Martin and Ricky Nelson. I have both here and I enjoy putting them in and watching. They have parts in them that just make me grin.

Now with Clint I have two favorites with his westerns. Two Mules for Sister Sarah. Funny western with him and Shirley MacClain. If you haven't seen it I'd highly recommend it. The other is Paint Your Wagon. Now this one is very different. It's a musical with Clint Eastwood and Lee Marvin. It's one where you can't tell too much about it but if you get a chance to see it you will laugh. Funny movie with some great songs in it. Yes Clint Eastwood sings and he has a decent voice in it.

myLot reputation of 81/100. jimbo45 (9455)  1 year ago

i have seen all the ones you mention and they are indeed all greats.i can remember going to see paint your wagon when it came out.lee marvin, wanderin star, eastwood sung i talk to the trees,if i remember right.two mules was good to,think i did mention it earlier on

I absolutely love the movie Tombstone. Val Kilmer as Doc Holliday was truly amazing. I also enjoyed watching the first Young Guns movie..didn't care for the second one. Clint Eastwood was awesome in the Good, the Bad and the Ugly. I have seen it so many times. I usually watch it everytime they play it on tv.

myLot reputation of 81/100. jimbo45 (9455)  1 year ago

never seen tombstone.young guns, havent seen it either.eastwood was excellent in the good the bad and the ugly.i must have seen it 100 times at least

I used to watch lots of Westerns - I have seen all of the ones mentioned. Could not quite work out the Spaghetti ones though. Especially the gunfight with the watch playing that seems to take forever.

If it counts as a Western, I think the best is 'The Alamo'. It has such feeling, great stars and a haunting tune.

The monkey film title is 'Every which way but loose' it was an orangutan in it.

myLot reputation of 81/100. jimbo45 (9455)  1 year ago

Still a monkey for me,easier to say,but I could go for chimp to,or ape,all of which I know are wrong.Orangutan is a bit of a tounge twister.Tongue even

The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly is my favorite western, jimbo. I like all of Sergio's spaghetti westerns, even without Eastwood. What was the name of the one with Charles Brosnan?

As far as 'newer' westerns, I liked Silverado (Kevin Kline) and Unforgiven (Eastwood) and although this doesn't qualify as a western but does have horses in it, I liked The Jack Bull (John Cusack.)

Every Which Way But Loose and Any Which Way But Loose are the two Eastwood 'monkey' movies.

myLot reputation of 81/100. jimbo45 (9455)  1 year ago

It woyld have been ace if they taught the chimp to fire a gun

myLot reputation of 81/100. jimbo45 (9455)  1 year ago

It would have been ace if they taught the orangutan to fire a gun,I have never seen an ape shoot before

myLot reputation of 96/100. Transdisc (12488)  1 year ago

Yeah, but he was cool using his fingers/ paw as a gun...wait, Eastwood had the 'hand' gun and the ape fell down.

You're right, it would have been better the other way around.

myLot reputation of 98/100. jeanena (644)  1 year ago

The title of the second movie with Clyde "any which way you can" I saw them both in the theater ..LOL when i was young ohhhh so many years ago.

I think my all-time favorite western would have to be The Sons of Katie Elder. I love John Wayne and the way the sons get along reminds me of my kids.

myLot reputation of 81/100. jimbo45 (9455)  1 year ago
