Peanut Butter Recall |
|
I just saw on the news that some brands of peanut butter are being recalled. The reason? Salmonella poisoning has happened with it. According to the news this is the first time Salmonella has been linked to peanut butter. The two brands involved are Peter Pan and Great Value (Wal-mart brand). They want you to check the top of the jar for a number beginning with this: 2111 and if it has that then to return it. For more information you can read the article at:

1. sandie61 (1280) | 3 years ago | I seen that on the news and I just ate peter pan peanut butter yesterday. it was the last of the jar so I do not know the numbers on the lid. I threw away the empty jar. but I feel fine so hopefully it was ok. also I`m bumming out about it because peter pan is my favorite brand of peanut butter.

emeraldisle (8978) | 3 years ago | I almost bought some this last time but got Jif instead which right now I'm glad of. I prefer Peter Pan as well normally but right now kind of glad that I decided to go with the competition. It's scary as to what can happen. You never know with things. I'm sure if you've been eating it right along and it just finished the jar then I would think it would be alright.

2. brokentia (7815) | 3 years ago | Wow! I have never heard of peanut butter being recalled! How does a company that manufactures peanut butter get salmonella poisoning in peanut butter? And if it effects these two brands. Does this mean that Peter Pan is the same manufacturer of Great Value for WalMart? No wonder I don't like generic peanut butter. I only like Jiff.:) So, my peanut butter is ok. But thanks for the news! That is a new one for me.

emeraldisle (8978) | 3 years ago | My mom IM'd me about it because she has Peter Pan but she's had it for a while now. They don't eat it a lot so she's had it for some time and she said she kept it in the fridge so hopefully it's ok. Normally we buy Peter Pan or the Wal-Mart but not this time. I got Jiff and we have a jar from Doller General, thank goodness.
They are made by the same parent company. I'd never heard of this happening before either. I've heard of it with other foods but not peanut butter. It's weird.

3. elp388 (1847) | 3 years ago | I love Peter Pan peanut butter, but because my husband likes Jif .. and he eats more peanut butter than I do, I buy Jif. so I guess we are in the clear (for now) it seems more and more foods are ending up with this kind of thing.
why is it that we never used to hear about contaminated food recalls years ago? is this something new? do we have nasty people in the food industry? what is the deal?

emeraldisle (8978) | 3 years ago | Sometimes it's nice to buy a different brand and now we know why.
It didn't state what caused it so going to have to wait on that one. Just that they are looking into it.

4. perrytx (1892) | 3 years ago | I saw this in the paper today and look over on my table is an open peanut butter jar and it's The Great Value! I find the lid and sure enough, it has a 2111 code on it! I haven't called the number yet. Do you know if I have to send in the top or just call and tell them and they refund me?

emeraldisle (8978) | 3 years ago | I have no clue on that part. Might be best to call Wal-Mart and ask them. I bet they know what you have to do and what refund or replacement you get for it.

5. avonrep1 (1190) | 3 years ago | I bought a jar of this lot of the Great Value. I just wrote a post on this myself. My child has been sick for months sometimes its worst than others. Its developed into intestional problems. I am taking my jar to be tested and if that is what is making my daughter sick, I'm going to a lawyer. I won't be sending the lid back, because I am planning on seeking legal advice. I suggest anyone who hasn't gotten better on their own like my child seek legal advice to. By sending the lid in for a refund you are agree with them its okay to poison your family as long as they refund your money.

emeraldisle (8978) | 3 years ago | Well you do what you need to do. I think a lot of it is going to be based on how it got contaminated. From what I saw they were still investigating.

elp388 (1847) | 3 years ago | did you see the news today? a woman from St. Louis is suing them because she says that her kids have been sick for months. I hope your child gets better soon.

| wildfire66 (19) | 3 years ago | I live in St Louis and it was just on the news that 15 new cases of salmonella were confirmed just today from the peanut butter. I also heard that apparently the jars got the salmonella at some plant in georgia i think where its made or put in the jars or something. Whatever your child has Avon i hope she gets better soon.

6. lecanis (7212) | 3 years ago | I read this one too. It's interesting because peanut butter is something I don't think people ever worry about. Scary.
My husband is now so paranoid he won't eat the peanut butter we already have, even though it isn't one of those brand.*shakes her head*

emeraldisle (8978) | 3 years ago | To be honest I have no clue. The article and the news last night didn't say how. They might still be figuring that part out.

|
avonrep1 (1190) | 3 years ago | The messed up thing about this though is the company new back in July that Salmonella had contaminated the peanut butter. They wait 8 months to informed the public. My daughter's doctor and the local health department things my childs intestional problem is due to Salmonella poisoning. Before it was announced she had another PB&J and has been in exteme pain since. No more PB&J. I'm very angry over this. I added up the doctors bills and it comes up to $12,867.23. They better be willing to pay it off and her other medical bills that will come from this. I'm going to sue Con Agra Foods, they knew and didn't say anything.
