Smile - and People DO Wonder What You're Up To! |
|
I'm a smiler - I love to smile. But more and more, I'm finding that whenever I smile to strangers, instead of sending me a smile in return, they'd cast a suspicious look (sometimes even a frown) - as if I'm some kind of a nut or wierdo. Rarely do I get a friendly smile back anymore.
There's this fun saying that goes something like: "Smile - and people will wonder what you're up to!" Wow, how true! And I always thought it's just simply "nice" to give a smile to people...
Have you ever experienced the same things? Please share because I'm starting to wonder if it's just me - my "wierd" smile...?

1. shywolf (3832) | 3 years ago | Pups, it's a sad reflection of the world today and of current society that we look on strangers smiling at us as a 'strange' thing. I would probably not give you a weird look, but I am painfully shy and would probably just look away. Believe me, though, it's really nice to get a smile from someone, and I'm sure that there are other people who didn't give you a weird look who's day you made by smiling at them. I would never give up, if I were you. I would love to smile at strangers if only I weren't so shy, lol!

Even though I can't "see" you right now - Thanks, shywolf, for your lovely smile:) You're so sweet...

3. greengal (2946) | 3 years ago | LOL, I know what you mean, for all you know I might be the one who gave you that weird look when you smiled at me..hehe! When I came to the US for the first time I had a hard time coping with all the smiles that came my way. It is unusual for someone to smile(to strangers especially) back where I come from. And it took me by surprise that strangers smiled at me when I looked at them..I obviously asked my husband why everybody smiles and he explained people are nice here and are courteous. I've been here for over a year now and I myself have learnt to smile. It's nice when you get one in return otherwise ohhh...so embarassing..we have that silly smile plastered on our faces and nobody is reciprocating..lol!! What a sight!;o)

Pups2Hug (338) | 3 years ago | Really? You mean there are more "smilers" where you live? I guess Americans must be friendlier than Canadians!? Oops, I better not touch that topic...;)
I'm the opposite of you now - I tend to smile "less" because of those negative experiences, which to me, is quite sad:(
Maybe I should move to the US, closer to where you live!!
