What's the best way to publish a book?

I have been publishing at lulu.com I am a translator of the Word of God from Greek to English. I have already published GENESIS, EXODUS, LEVITICUS (Greek-English), THE WILL New Testament (Greek to English), ELEMENTS of SALVATION, The Right Way, GOD, ORIGIN, TRANSFER into PERFECTION, GREEK-ENGLISH (Grammar & Vocabulary), WORDS in THE WILL New Testament, and others shown at http://www.lulu.com/arseniajoaquin

I have not spent even a single cent in publishing these. There are no set up fees. Authors are not even required to buy even a single copy of their books. In fact I have not seen any copy of any of my books as I have no money and I don't even have any credit card.

You may be interested to publish there also. It's very easy to follow instructions, easy to publish, and become a published author without even spending a single cent like me:)

I think that lulu.com can help you. I heard that it is good site for PODs. I suggest that you visit lulu.com and see if it could satisfy your desires.

The answer to this question depends on how much money you have to spend on this project.

The easiest way to be accesible to everyone at a low cost is to publish POD via Lightning Source. This gets you into the Ingram database, which gets you on Amazon.com, BN.com and bookstores everywhere are able to order your book. If you do not have any skills in Quark, InDesign or a similar program then you will have to pay for someone to design the cover and layout the text. You'll also need a editor, unless you are an English whiz yourself.:)

If you want to make more money per sale and have a few thousand to spare you can start a publishing company and then find a place to print your books (3,000 is usually a pretty good price). The downside is that you're not in the Ingram database so you will have to find a distributor, but you can get in Amazon.com yourself via Amazon Advantage. If you're going this route I suggest you buy yourself a copy of The Self-Publishing Manual. And remember, you'd still have to get design, layout, etc done.

Or, you can send out queries to literay agents and try to get an agent that can pimp your book out to publishers. Supposedly it can take up to 2 years once a major house buys the rights to your book to actually see it in print.

So,really, it's up to you. I suggest checking out the Self-Publishing Yahoo group as it is filled with people that have taken all of the roads above and can give you some great insight into the process and your options.
