themselves with a spoon? My son is 9 months old and he does very well with picking food up with his hands and putting it in his mouth. I thought I'd try the spoon with him the other day so I gave him some yogurt. He stuck the spoon in it (with my help) and he put it in his mouth but then he just wants to suck on the spoon and not take it back out of his mouth. And then when I try to take it from him then he gets mad and throws a fit. Should I just keep trying or wait a little longer?

I would use two spoons, one for him, and one for you.
I wouldn't really put pressure on him to excel at it yet.

Offer him spoonfuls of what he is having, yourself. But give him the other spoon to hold on to. He may sometimes want to trade you, or take both, or just suck the spoon in his hand.

Give him some time to experiment with his new tool. He will eventually get the idea, between you feeding him and watching you put it on the spoon and his own sppon, and a gradual inclination to put some on his own spoon..

One thing I learned with my babies.. NEVER take their spoon! LOL!

I think my kids were a year old when I started working with them on eatting with silverware but I don't see any harm in letting him hold onto a spoon give him one to use and get one out for you to use too.

Hi there, I let my kids start eating at around 9 or 10 months. I put a big plastic garbage bag on the floor under the highchair and let them have a ball. It was wonderful to see. They both made big beautiful messes and only got half the food in their bellies. I would then hold the spoon and guide it to their mouths and they loved it.

I would keep giving him the spoon and show him how you eat and he will learn from you. Good luck hopefully you have this all figured out by now. Good luck.
