Do you read the Obituaries in the paper? |
|
I read several newspapers a day, and among them, there are the newspapers from my hometown. For some weird reason, I read the obituaries, and that's how I've found that some people I knew have died. Yesterday, it was a little shocking, since I saw that the father of one of my best friends from college had died. She is living in Finland, and I don't have her phone number. I tried to e-mail her and it I got it returned. I tried with another address and I think that will reach her. Have you gone through something like that? I'm still a little bit in shock with that.

2. sigma77 (4282) | 3 years ago | I used to do this, look through the obituaries. Not anymore. After the death of my brother, my closest friend and my step daughter over the last 20 years, I don't want to know anymore. If someone calls me to tell me about someone passing away, that is fine. I don't want to go out of my way to know anymore.

4. lauriefnp (4173) | 3 years ago | I do read the obituaries every day. In addition to family members of people I've known and other people that were neighbors when I was growing up, I have taken care of a very high-risk patient population of HIV/AIDS patients, many of whom are actively using drugs and alcohol. I have developed a good relationship with a lot of these people, their families, and their partners. I always check to see if anyone I know has died so that I can send a card or pay my respects at the funeral home, depending on the situation.

6. pukaprat (313) | 2 years ago | if that is shocking to you read on:
i was dating a guy named chris guerpo when i was 16. he too was 16. we dated for about a year. then he got into drugs and i broke it off. it was a very bad break up. none the less. years down the line i come back to my home town and was approached by a girl. she asked me my name. so i told her. she looked at me and asked if i had ever dated a guy name chris. i told her yes and jokingly asked if she was going to kick my*ss for it. (i live/ grew up in a place where people are very over protective of their partners) anyways, she told me he had wanted to marry me. i thought it was a joke since she kept reffering to him in past tense. finally i asked what had become of him. she told me he died of cancer. So i go back into my place of work at the time. and find out i have been working with his uncle. he never told me (the guy that i worked with) that he was related until i brought up the fact that i was down. his uncle told me the only thing chris ever wanted was to see me one last time and to try and spend the rest of his days with me. what a trip huh? i thought so too when i heard it. still throws me for a loop when i think about it.
however, i read the obituaries to make sure i am not in it. and when i see that i am not, i pour myself a cup of coffee and continue on about my day.
