Are there any rules you men follow when styling or trimming your moustaches?

My goodness, I have seen so many moustaches on men that really look tacky. I have also seen some well groomed moustaches. Please post some tips so that more men can learn how to style their moustaches. Are there any rules when it comes to moustaches? Why do some men have these handle bar moustaches? Well.. of course they must like them, but why?

I do not have any rules or methods that I go by when styling or trimming my moustache. I usually do not get it get very long or big and shave it off before having to worry about dealing with it. I am sure there are men who shave or trim their facial hair a certain way but not me. I usually shave mine off completely before it gets long enough to be groomed.

I am not to big on facial hair unless it is well groomed. I have really seen some tacky staches..lol.
