Why do some planets have more moons than others?

Well, a bigger planet has a greater gravitational force so it can attract more passing-by celestial bodies (such as asteroids) that become its moons.
Another explanation might come from the mechanisms of the planetary accretion. While accreting into a large celestial body that would later become a planet, this great substance mass will gravitationaly attract other masses in its proximity, but not hard enough to make them collaps into itself. These masses will enter an orbit and later become moons.

Thanks for the best response. It would have been nice though to see other opinions...I'm not sure on this theory, it's just the way I see things.

From Scholastic:"For planets, the bigger you are, the bigger your gravity is. If you have a stronger gravity, then you can grab onto more moons. Jupiter and Saturn are the biggest planets, so they have the most moons."

I was hoping for more responses too, but I felt that I had let it sit long enough with no other answers. I guess I better choose my subject matter a little better next time.
