Your cat or your furniture? Your dog or your garden?

You wouldn't get rid of your children for coloring on the walls would you? That's how I feel about my pets. Cats can be declawed, dogs can be trained. I've been thgrough it all with my pets and I wouldn't give them up for anything!

I definitely would not let go od my kittens for furniture, because i don't really care about my furniture and i love my kittens!

My poor Tabitha used to scratch my dining room leather chairs constantly, even though I covered them with blankets and jackets. She still managed to get under those items to scratch the chairs' back and seat cushions. I was very aggravated, but loved her too much to get rid of her. I chose her over the furniture and I'm glad that I did. At least I appreciated and enjoyed her while she was still alive. I'd still do the same thing today!

Have to admit I can't stand people who put objects above their pets. The main problem is that they don't really understand that a clawing cat or a digging dog is doing something natural.

It's a sick fact of modern society that we have so many unnatural-thinking people having responsibility for their pets. Utterly clueless, and usually lousy pet owners.

Agree with not declawing. It removes an important part of the cat's arsenal, and doesn't help its grooming abilities, which can affect its health. A declawed cat can't scratch itself effectively. Those claws are there for a few good reasons.

I TRAIN my animals and I pet proof my house
That means, 4'tall baby gate across the room with the good furniture (the cat can't jump it either)
Blankets on the rest of the furniture.
I give them the TOYS they need so that they WON"T destroy my stuff. Plenty of scratching posts for kitty (I rub them with catnip to keep him interested in those and NOT my furniture)
Lots of chew toys for the dogs...
my VEGETABLE garden is off limits to the dogs... fenced in where they can't get to it, and they are given plenty of exercise so that they don't destroy my stuff. Lots of chew toys and LOTS of exercise.
Then I have a house with decent furniture, and a garden that grows!

I might get rid of the furniture, but I wouldn't get rid of my cats. They are a part of the family to me. They take good care of me, greeting me at the door and keeping me company.

I had a problem with my cat's clawing my furniture until I bought them a cat tree to use. It should not come down to having to choose. There are almost always other options.

My cats have scratched my furnature and I still have them. My cats are more than just pets they are part of my family. I totslly love and adore my cats. I have 2 beautifull cats 1 is a gray tabby and he is the male and his name is Precious and the other is white with black and gray spots ahd she is the female and her name is Alexis. Because my cats are important to me I had them fixed.

My cats are trained to use the tall scratching post I have for them so they don't use the furniture or woodwork. My dog is trained to stay out of the garden/flowerbeds so no problems there either. I won't give up an animal because they are causing problems. I'll work on correcting/training the behavior.

when we had our dog as an indoor, she used to chew up the whole furniture and now that she is an outdoor dog, she dugs and chews up everything outside that are very useful. my parents are agreeing to get rid of her but they dont cause of my brother.
