Save money with homemade toys for your pets |
| |
| I have four parakeets, and they absolutely love tearing any toys I buy them to shreds. I've given up having anything I give them last more than a week or two, and I recently started making homemade toys for them out of used cardboard tubes from toilet paper and paper towels. I cut out the parts of the tubes that have any glue residue on them, and then snip the tubes into spirals and lace those through the bars of the cage. My birds love to try to get them off of there! I've also given them toys made of uncooked pastas and large beads, and they loved those, too. I've also made homemade toys for my three kitties using short lengths of string and a piece of crinkled paper. They really go nuts over that, especially if I tuck a little bit of dried catnip into the middle of it. It's a great way to spend quality time playing with your pets without breaking the bank! | | | | | |

| | i do the same thing with the cardboard paper tubes. the lovebirds love to walk around with them around their neck (i cut them to about 1 inch wide) i will also take papertowels and fold them lengthwise 4 or 5 times, then keep twisting them until it curls around itself, then i start tying knots. (sometimes i will hide a treat in the centers) the loved birds and parakeets LOVE shredding those! | | | | | | |

| | Ooh, I hadn't even thought about using paper towels as toys. I have a bag of seed treats that I got not too long ago, so I'll try wrapping a couple of those up and see how my parakeets like playing with them. Thanks for the great tip! | | | |

| | How fun! My cats when I was a kid used to love aluminum foil balls. We would wash off the aluminum foil after we used it and scrunch it into balls for them. My dad used to bring home cardboard boxes for them. He'd cut out a door and a window. The cats would play with it, and then my mom would take it out to the recycling. The next week, my dad would have found another box. | | | | | | |

| | We buy toys for our cats all the time and they do not even touch them. I find a tin foil ball is their favorite thing to play with. They also love to chase around a laser light. But we have to be careful we do not want to get it in their eyes. I do not waste money any more on toys. | | | | | | |

| | Hi akuseru. We don't have birds but we have a little cute dog who is part chiwawa and part tibetan spaniel. We don't have problems with toys because he doesn't like them. We bought him a frog and a bone from Food Max and he also have balls but rarely plays with them. I agree. Making your own toys when you have pets that go through them fast is the best solution to save money. Take care. | | | | | | |
