Expect to spend 500+ on an English BullDog

The rarer the breed the more the cost, the more impressive the pedigree the higher the cost.

I understand about placing value on a dog, such as keeping a person safe, or for companionship, or for example those dogs who are companion and help dogs for hearing, seeing eye, or wheelchair bound, the special training needed for such dogs is expensive, that the personalities of certain breeds show a temperment for being better able to match the needs of those would make the dog more in demand.

I never understood the concept of paying hundreds for a dog, because of breed, but I do not have dogs for the purpose of show, or competition.

It is unfortunate that the average person who is not intierested in a specific breed for show or competition but rather because they just like the look, or personality of the dog can not always find the high fees to buy such a dog, this is due to those who do specifically breed for competition.

So it depends on the person. If your purpose is competition, then of course the price may be worth it if you are expecting to win prizes due to this, if you are say a sheep farmer who relies a good well trained dog to herd his sheep then yes a dog could be worth the price for the work and skill he will have.

But for a family pet, if you can afford the dog, and it is your personal wants, or that of someone you care about how do you price happiness, if it for a family pet and you can't afford it, then it is just not fair that you should be denied.

I would think that anyone making the choice to spend large sums of money on a dog will check the dog out, make sure of him a bit as best they could. While you can to some degree judge the temperment of a dog quickly enough by how he responds to certain things when you first meet him there is no way to really know how he may react to change unless you test the issue first.

So for a high priced dog, like any large financial transaction make sure your contract includes something that will protect your interests, should you need to alter or make changes, such as give the dog up due to conflicts if you have other family members, or other pets, etc.

I do not believe it buying dogs or pets when you can find what you want in aninmal shelters, like you mine are from animal shelters and they are all brilliant and loving and have their own characters.

One of the reasons English Bulldogs are so expensive is that they are usually delivered via a c-section instead of a natural birth because the pups get stuck in the birth canal due to the stocky body. Litters are usually small. Price escalates also because of the demand for these as pets.

I agree that the price is steep. But there is a technical and valid reason in this breed.
