According to the NME's website Tim Robbins is producing a film about Joe Strummer and the band Radio 4 have been asked to do the music. According to discussion on Strummersite it's going to be a fictional biopic based on Joe's life. I don't know how this is going to work because there's so much that happened, how do you fit 50 years of a life, or even just the 25 years or so he was involved with music (and that includes squatting, pub rock, eight years of The Clash, attempts at a solo carear, acting and colaberations, before returning with The Mescaleros, and that's only the public story.) especialy one as eventful, and complex as his into a two hour or so film?
Julian Temple's documentary The Future Is Unwritten (just been shown at Sundance and has been getting good reviews) had to leave out whole parts of Strummer's story to fit the running time, so I don't know how a fictional account would manage it.
I've read Redemption Song (his biography by Chris Salwertz)
and Joe was even more complicated that he seemed. His life doesn't fit into easy catogories of triumph over tragedy or the sterotypical doomed rock hero.
Who would play him for a start? and what about the rest of The Clash?
