things have changed, now we live in wooden boxes,have electric light and running water,heaters humidifiers.Sometimes makes us feel we are moving away from nature.The log houses u said abt is meant only for picnic and spend some time in luxury and not a daily way of life.Interesting thing is that now this very natural way of living has become expensive and luxurious...

There is a select few of people who still live this way, some by choice and others by lack of resources.
Life was more simple back then with out all of the modern conveinces. But I don't think I could live like that being brought up in todays world.

I recently did a photo shoot for a band and I suggested the band play in front of this old lof cabin the venue had in the yard, so the band used the inside as their band room and set up out the front of it, they had a few things inside as they would have had in those days, I was absolutuley taken by this little place, I would love to have one in my backyard....

One thing I believe modern kids don't give enough thought to is how their grandparents and ancestore lived. I teach English here in Thailand, and one subject we reflect on is exactly that. People nowadays are so involved in IT ,that they forget how we got to where we are today. Sorry suzzylady, I digressed a little, but your post takes me back forty years when what you described, is what we considered then as a holiday to get away from it all.
