The ratio of men to women in the world today.

This may strike you as radical, but I've been thinking about it for a while and am curious to hear other's thoughts on it. If one looks at other species of large mammals with a high degree of social organization and behavior, the male to female ratio is 1:8 or higher. Only humans maintain a 1:1 ratio, and I think that has mostly to do with religion. I wonder if this apparently aberrant tendency is responsible for a great deal of what's wrong with the planet today? It is certainly what drives the population explosion. I can make a pretty good argument for war being an extended function of testosterone. What do you think? Please understand, I'm not advocating the wholesale dispatch of men to achieve a natural balance. I would also appreciate it if we could leave religion in general and the Bible in particular out of this discussion. I'm thinking more in the scientific mode, and would be grateful for responses in the same.
