Psychologically, swearing is a sign of anger. |
|
I find casual swearing in either sex offensive. As a rule the worst words I use are an occasional*damn* or*hell*. I don't mind a woman that swears from time to time. It's not like I do every other word, but I do have moments! There's a time and place for being that liberal with language. As long as it isn't a consistant way of speaking, and it isn't in the wrong circumstance, it's ok. An occasional swear is ok but when every sentence got one in it that bothers me. Turns me off to hear either sex talk in four letter words all the time. The males I know do not like to hear a female swear...do you noticed that also?

2. Heavensent53 (2626) | 1 year ago | Yes, I agree, I cannot tolerate a lot of nonsense words like that either. I know a person who is related only by marriage that has a terrible filthy mouth. I've told her repeatedly that it offends me, but she would continue. I'm talking about the "f" word. I take it as a sign she doesn't respect me, and have not made it a point to go around her. I know that men do disrespect women who talk like that, I used to work construction and saw women that thought they should talk like "a man". The men couldn't stand them except for thinking 'you know what'. But it's kind of a double standard for them supposed to be OK for them to say it. Men who are respectful of women don't talk that way!

4. spiderman05 (584) | 1 year ago | I don't like people who punctuate their conversations with vulgar words. It happened to me on many occasions to hear somebody using one or two bad words in every sentence. Once in a while, I utter one of those words and generally unconsciously . I also, belong to that category of persons who feel much more offended when a woman swears. It has nothing with sexism. It is just many still see women as a symbol of sensuality and purity.

5. dfinster (1701) | 1 year ago | I try not to swear as a rule for myself. Don't get me wrong, there are times when I'm really upset and a few curses fly out of my mouth. I always feel bad about it after they do. I was raised in a house where cursing wasn't looked at casually. In fact, all the way through highschool I didn't curse around my parents at all or I would've been in a lot of trouble. I think that women who completely pepper their conversations with that type of language are really unfeminine. I also think that anybody, men or women who only use that language to get their point across aren't too intelligent and can't think of any other words to use instead of vulgarities.

7. Willowlady (9093) | 1 year ago | Swearing is the easy thing to do. There are so many words that could be used instead of the swear word. Our languages are colorful and interesting and the use of swear words are not even necessary. Time to return to more manners and watching our word usage I say. There is still alot that seems unbecoming to us ladies in this modern world.

9. Noot54 (4444) | 1 year ago | I'm very old-fashioned and hate to hear females swear. I was brought up that a gentleman does not swear (badly) in front of a lady as it is demaning to both sexes. When I was a lad ladies were not allowe din the bar section of a pub for that very reason so nobody would be offended if a strong male expleteive slipped out! Nowadays it is almost compulsory for women to use the 'f' word and I find it repulsive. Ok - let's go for broke - I hate to see women smoking in public as it looks 'common'. Is there anybody I haven't offended?

| forgiven98 (59) | 1 year ago | you have absolutely NOT offended me. my very sweet husband, as far as i know, does not swear!! i almost forget that there are those type of words out there, because when i do hear them, i'm in shock!! he has sworn a couple of times in front of me, when he was really REALLY mad. i was so scared, felt like a little girl. swearing does remind me of anger and possibly a frustrated life. Noot54, i am a fan of the ol fashioned ways. i love being a lady. it's a habit to me, to be a lady. and i appreciate it when men treat me like a lady. it's really a lost 'art' in america these days. women nowadays have no clue what they're missing out on. and don't get me wrong, i was NOT raised like this. i was raised in the bush of Alaska of all things LOL LOL LOL!! how bout that!? but since i got saved, and the Lord dealt with me about, that i need to be wearing dresses, everything else that pertained to a lady followed. i use to be the prime and ultimate country girl. country music, a cluncker car, boots, jeans, smokin, beer, guys, you name it. THEN...Praise the Lord, He got a hold of me, and SAVED me!! 2 Corinthians 5:17 says... "Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. that's my life verse. i love it.

10. onesiobhan (1083) | 1 year ago | It's really a cultural thing. In my culture, swearwords aren't particularily bad so we tend to use them a lot more than other people around us. My best friend is French-Canadian, and words that are considered swearing in English have absolutely no connotations with obscenity in his culture. All swearing is done with religious words. My husband is German, and there are no swearwords related to sex - all their swearwords are about dirt. So the hangup that North Americans have about specific words seems a little droll to us.
