Have times really changed? Or are people generally the same?

Paradigms shift, yet comparing the paradigms on a macro level, you'll come to the conclusion very little has changed.

I don't think that kids today are "bad" but I do think that times have changed. Parenting is not taken as seriously by more and more people. No stay at home parents anymore often means less guidance. Less guidance can only lead to problems. I don't think it ends with the parents though.

I really think that society in general has failed children. For the last many years children have been told "You can do anything" Well I'm sorry to burst your bubble but that's just not the case. Different people have different aptitudes and even different likes and dislikes which will lead them in particular directions.

There was a study done recently that stated that college students are more narcissistic than in previous generations. They are self-centered and as such I believe will make even worse parents than their own parents were. This is going to spiral out of control if we don't start to care about one another.

On an interesting side note I posted the other day asking if you could see evidence of people caring about each other and not surprisingly received no responses.

A part of me says that times haven't changed -- only technology. No matter the times, humanity has always managed to come up with ways to hurt, maim, and kill each other. In this regard, only changing technology has determined just how this is done.

Another part of me does sense that people seem to be more selfish than in more recent times...say, in the last 100 years. I don't know if this is so, or if I am just getting older and my perceptions of reality are changing.

Oh, I have to agree with you. I hear people constantly stating how times have changed, but in reality, when I think about it, the calander changes, but that is all.

I think they are pretty much the same as always. I would have to agree with you.

People are the same as they ever were really if you think about it. The same things that motivated people hundreds of years ago are still in evidence. The only difference is the way they go about getting what they want. And of course we hear about things more often because of the media.

I think that generally times are the same. I think people are actually better than they used to be. We seemed to have learned, I hope. The glass is half full I guess.
