 Good gracious me. What a palavar the star rating system is. But I do find it interesting, and it got me athinking. It seems the star rating system is not exact. So how, I asked myself, can we get an exact score.
To do this I have composed a list of questions. Each question has an answer and an associated score. Answer the questions as honestly as you can, and add up your score. At the bottom of the page, you will find your REAL star rating.
1. Are you remotely interested in the responses you will receive to your discussions?
Never – 0 points.
Sometimes – 1 point.
Always – 2 points.
2. Do you read all your responses?
Never – 0 points.
Sometimes – 1 point.
Always – 2 points.
3. Before you respond to a discussion, do you read all the other responses first?
Never – 0 points.
Sometimes – 1 point.
Always – 2 points.
4. Do you give your discussions best responses when you get one? Lol
Never – 0 points.
Sometimes – 1 point.
Always – 2 points.
5. Do you write discussions or responses with less than seven words?
Never – 2 points.
Sometimes – 1 point.
Always – 0 points.
6. Do you rate all the discussions you respond to?
Never – 0 points.
Sometimes – 1 point.
Always – 2 points.
7. Do you rate all the responses you receive?
Never – 0 points.
Sometimes – 1 point.
Always – 2 points.
8. Do you rate people negatively if they have disagreed with you, or if you have a cyber-dislike of them?
Never – 2 points.
Sometimes – 1 point.
Always – 0 points.
9. Do you write your discussions or responses with your best possible English, spelling, grammar, and punctuation?
Never – 0 points.
Sometimes – 1 point.
Always – 2 points.
10. Do you strive with mind, body, and perhaps a notebook, to write discussions that will benefit the world?
Never – 0 points.
Sometimes – 1 point.
Always – 2 points.
Now check your score?
Score= 19 – 20. Ten Stars
Score= 17 – 18 Nine Stars
Score= 15 – 16 Eight Stars
Score= 13 – 14 Seven Stars
Score= 11 – 12 Six Stars
Score= 9 - 10 Five Stars
Score= 7 - 8 Four Stars
Score= 5 - 6 Three Stars
Score= 3 - 4 Two Stars
Score= 1 - 2 One Stars
How did you do? Having been completely honest with myself, I can tell you I have six stars. Woe is me.

Though your system of rating will be useful for someone who truly wants to know his "real" rating, I would hazard to say that for someone who is not satisfied enough about his "myLot rating", he would then quite likely know how he fares truly, anyway.
I would say that just by your own gut feel, you will know if you deserve the number you have in your star. But I grant that for those friends whose left brains are more dominant than their right, a mechanical system of rating such as the one you have developed will definitely come in handy.;-)

the problem is that the site is in english and i'm italian.
anyway, italian tech industry is so poor that a good site like this is impossibile to find.
we have only ciao.it, that come from germany and it's the only one serioud i find in 7 years of internet experience.

| Desiderata (503) | 3 years ago | There are three little boxes at the bottom and to the left of every discussion description visible when you open it.
You can see them at the top now.
They are a '+', a '-' and a '!'.
You click the '+ to express approval, the '-' to express disapproval, and the '!' if you wish to report the discussion to myLot. You may want to report a discussion because of bad language or foul content for example.

One question I read many replies where members say they have rated every reply yet the boxes remain intact and i donot understand that .....and one more thing can you rate all replies or only one so many unanswered questions with this site yet i still like it and have no complaints

Now the rating – the rating boxes appear for every user for every discussion, and for every comment. So if those boxes are showing, it only means that you have not clicked them yet. It doesn't mean that nobody else has. This way everybody can have a say.
And yes, you can rate every comment in every discussion ever posted (if you really want to).

I wonder what is the difference when you have a good star rating or high rating. when I see a discussion that looks interesting then I like to read the posts and reply if I can, I don't look to see the stars although you do notice them of course. I don't choose the discussion because the person posting has lots of stars is what i mean to say.

I cannot say that the star rating does not have any effect on me whatsoever. I was looking forward to it and went into a brain-draining, finger-blunting frenzy when I discovered that I could get it after my 100th post. I though stars just dropped from the Admins' Olymupus whenever they deemed fit.
