| i live in Australia and have tried many differant types of freshwater fish but have largely been dissapointed with them, I live near the oceon and have been brought up on saltwater fish.Have i just been unlucky in the fish that i have tried or are there good freshwater fish.Even trout that many people comment on how great it is seems bland to me. May it be that i have been spoilt living by the sea? | | saltwater fish | | | | |

| | I agree totally with what you have said mud is the taste i get from them. I have friends here that come from in land and they tell me i am not cooking them right.I must add this and that and cook it like this and that, Well i am sure i could use an old pair of socks and follow their sacred recipes and still come up with the same flavour. Fish that can be cooked just on their own and retain the great flavour are the ones i prize.Sorry inland people i promise not to deplete your stocks , you may have them all to yourself. Having said that one must not tarnish the reputation of the humble yabby! | | | |

| | I feel the same way too, am not used of eating freshwater fishes. The smell and the taste are not that good as what saltwater fishes do, and I've also noticed that freshwater fishes are a bit slimy thatn those from saltwater. Freshwater fishes gives a an after taste that I think because I was never used of, so I don't really eat freshwater fishes.. | | | | | | |

| | yes, there is really a big difference in the tastes of freshwater and marine fishes. maybe because marine fishes live in a much cleaner environment as compared to freshwater fish wherein they live in a confined area. but have you tried eating a milkfish (CHanos chanos)? i dont know if you have it there in your country but it tastes good. | | | | | | |

| | Hi I have fished both coastal and regional being from the Riverina (Inland New South Wales) and I can tell you that the quality of the water has a much higher effect on fresh water fish. As far as trout is concerned If it isn't cooked as soon as it leaves the water it isn't much good. Hence why they smoke it... The best fresh water fish I have ever had was silver perch (or black bream) my mother deep fried in crumbs whole and was absolutely beautiful. I would just like to say is that saltwater fish and this is effected by two factors. The high quality of the water and the food that they eat. What you mainly taste is the salt.. I know you aren't really interested in the add this add that strategy. But don't give up on trout untill you have tried it stuffed with mash banana. Sorry this was so long winded but it is a combination of two of my passions: Cooking and Fishing Peter Alkemade | | | |

| | I must admit i did like Redfin i used to catch in a dam/small lake in a vineyard i used to look after, I got me mate to skin them and them deep fry it. Beuatifull white flesh, and the Redfin were like mini snapper, From elbow to finger tip in size. The Murray Bridge fish are foul as by the time the water gets to there it's well polluted and grayish/olivey in colour, hence the flavour. We have a trout farm in the south east and i do not like them but are told fresh trout from up top like NSW are totaly differant Thank you for your responce. | | | |

| | it's a freshwater fish. i dont know if you have it there ins AU. it's usually culturedd here in our country and it does tastes really good. by the way, have you eaten a stingray? it's also delicious. we have a delicacy here in the Philippines called "kinunot" that uses stingray or sometimes shark. it's yummy and i like it when it's cooked that way. | | | |

| | hi there nid2210! yep, what we are actually tasting is the salt. yeah, the diet of fish also adds to it's taste. most of the omnivorous fish doesn't taste good if it's not cleaned very well. | | | |

| | Tell me about it, I was lucky to try some freshly caught Blue fin Tuna last year and it was perfect, texture almost like shark. The people who caught it were eating it raw whilst was just dead.I liked it very much but could not see $200 AU plus a kilo in it.We have a big migrating population just out from port macdonell, we also spend summer catching southern rock lobster, they are nice from down here in the cold water. | | | |

| | As far as I know, Philippines is one of the top exporters of fresh tuna. Japan has the most number of demands in tuna here, as they use it most on sashimis. Gen San City is the best place here in the philippines to look for world class tunas!;) | | | |

| | Australia is a big continent so it depends where you are as to what species of fish you catch. The species vary dramaticly as we have many extremes in climate depending whether you fish down south or up north. | | | |

| | Yep, I have to agree, i live on the beach in nsw and have fished here , qld , s.a and tassie and the fish out of the ocean alway's taste better than those caught in inland rivers and estuaries. For me i like a fish just grilled in lemon with no batter or anything else really and most fish you catch inland just arent up to scratch cooked like that.. good luck with the fishing | | | | | | |
