Are the Dixie Chicks still being punished for their politics? |
|
They swept the Grammy Awards, but apparently the Dixie Chicks are still not in favour with the Academy of Country Music. Nominations were announced Monday for the annual ACM Awards and there was no mention of the trio despite their five Grammys for Taking the Long Way. The Chicks have won 10 ACMs in their career, including Entertainer of the Year in 2000, but have been shunned by the Nashville establishment since their President Bush-bashing comments in 2003. While the Academy of Country Music isn't ready to make nice with the Chicks, the organization made sure the usual Nashville-pleasing subjects were accounted for, led by George Straight, Brooks & Dunn and Rascal Flatts. 1. Thomas73 (598) | 2 years ago | When musicians get involved in politics, they sometimes have to face the consequences. The lack of award for the Chicks could be considered like the low rating of some quality posters at myLot -- a battle scar to be proud of!;) P.S.: I hate Country anyway!:P

Noot54 (4441) | 2 years ago | Sorry. Thomas73, I shouldn't use acronyms and assume people know what they are. Glad you found it interesting, there are some truly amazing ones like the woman who mustn't try to kill herself by jumping into water as it puts her resuers at risk!

Thomas73 (598) | 2 years ago | Don't worry about acronyms, Google is my friend.;) And yes, it's interesting to read. I particularly like the one with the 17-year-old forbidden to use his front door.

steerpyke (287) | 2 years ago | welcome to British Culture Thomas. Talking of battle scars I always wondered why you have such a low rating from such eloquent posts, but I guess thats your own badge of honor from battling the mass ranks of relious ignorance. Keep it up sir!

Thomas73 (598) | 2 years ago | Thanks a lot for your support, Steerpyke, I appreciate it very much. And yes, battling against ignorance, religious or otherwise, is my very own 'anti-social' behavour.;)

3. Idlewild (4483) | 2 years ago | Apparently there's long been a divide between the ACM and broader music groups like the Grammys people. In some ways it seems Nashville is kind of an insular company town. The Chicks made a controversial statement, and some country people were actually coming around tothem again, then they made some kind of statement to the effect that they didn't need country radio or country music fans, and that seemed to ruin whatever tentative good will they seemed to be building up. I'll be curious to see how they do with future CDs,tours, etc. Their last tour they had to cancel a number of U.S. dates because of low ticket sales, but added some dates in Canada.

4. jackie_mmm (735) | 2 years ago | i read it on the same page. I guess the president must have that kind of effect on the board. I guess it's all too wrong for them to comment on Bush when they're themselves celebrities. They pan others and get involved in politics, and getting no nominatins in ACM is a small price to pay for shooting right off their mouths.

Noot54 (4441) | 2 years ago | Thanks very much for your input. I too believe they were speaking from the heart when they criticise the Bush government's involvement in Iraq and surely it';s that sort of freedom he would like to bring tho that unfortunate country?
