Husband sucks his Thumb in his sleep! |
| |
| My friend who was recently remarried two months ago just called me to tell me that last night she got up to go to the bathroom and saw her new husband sucking his thumb. She was in shock. When she told me I just laughed and said no way stop joking with me. She said no I am serious. I am still in disblief and just had to post about this. I am waiting for my hubby to get home to tell him. Is this normal? I have never heard of this in my life. What should she do? I need some advice to give her. | | | | | |

| | I actually know that this is normal. My brothers wife sucks her thumb in her sleep to. she has sucked her thumb since she was born. Now if you were to ask her if she does she would say no, that she use to, but don't anymore. I don't think she even knows she's at it... Like a person denying they snore, its the same thing. sometimes stress can trigger it. Perhaps the stress of getting married might have done it. Its just a coping and soothing mechanism. I don't think your friend has anything to worry about. i don't think she has a adult baby on her hands. But it might tick "him" off if he knew that his wife was talking about it. | | | | | | |

| | perhaps its just a trait he has carried from childhood.unless he is displaying strange behaviour in other ways i would leave well alone.i think that she should tread carefully about this to.its not normal, but i have seen it.if the rest of his behaviour is fine then this could be nothing-mind you,it could still turn into something.does he lie in the foetal position.ask your friend that.if he does, there could be a problem. | | | | | | |

| | I would like to say that it is a habit dating back to before he was born and he would grow out of it, but ummmm.....how old is this guy? My daughter sucked her thumb until she was eight or nine, but only at night. I would leave him alone about it, and definitly not go spreading it around to everyone. There has to be an underlying reason he is still sucking his thumb, and giving him a hard time or laughing at him is not the right thing to do. | | | | | | |

| | If someone made fun of something you did in your sleep, how would you feel? I think your friend was extremely disloyal to pass on this sort of information about her husband. He can hardly be held responsible for something he did in his sleep. If it really bothers her, she might mention it to him. If it is something that he feels badly about, suggest some of that bad tasting stuff they put on kids thumbs to discourage thumbsucking. If I were you or your husband though, I would never, ever mention it to your friend's husband. Tell her to quit making mountains out of molehills, and maybe you should, also. | | | | | | |

| | Do nothing! What has the man done wrong? Nothing! Who has he hurt! No one! Who can get hutt by this activity? No one! I don't see where this is a problem, at least he is not snoring the pictures off the walls and cracking the ceilings. IF this is the worse thing he ever does, he is a saint! | | | | | | |

| | If all he is doing wrong is sucking his thumb in his sleep, she has nothing to worry about. An acquaintance of mine has a husband that still pees in the bed. He has completely ruined their brand new mattress and the smell is so bad that she's forced him to sleep downstairs in his daughter's bed when his daughter isn't at home. The problem with that is now he's ruined his daughter's mattress as well. Tell your friend to count her lucky stars and be thankful that his habit isn't affecting anyone else in the family. *LoL* | | | | | | |

| | How old is the husband? and how often does he thumbsuck? If he thumbsucks everynight then it is not normal. If it does not happen everynight then it is ok. This is actually called regression. This is usually caused by stress or anxiety which is not dealt with properly and what happens is that the person "regresses" to a state where he is comfortable with, in his case, it's thumbsucking. It's subconscious, usually when asked they won't remember doing it. If it happens everytime though, it is not normal and is a problem already. It would mean that he cannot deal with everyday stress and this is his way of coping. He might not be able to face his problems or responsibilities. So I suggest that your friend observes her husband carefully. Best of luck! | | | | | | |

| | It's not that big a deal. He probably sicked his thumb as a child and thinks he has quit, but doesn't even realize he does it in his sleep. She can mention it to him and he can decie if he wants to take steps to correct it or not. | | | | | | |

| | Also, i don't think it is right of you to spread it around like that. Even to your husband. This man would probably be humiliated if he knew. | | | |

| | See, this is why I think people should live together before they get married lol Seriously though, I don't see the problem, if they have been married two months and she's only noticed now then he obviously doesn't do it constantly. It's probably just an occasional comfort thing that he most likely doesn't even realise he is doing. It's no big deal and as someone else said if that's their biggest problem then she is lucky. I also think that it's not very nice of her to gossip about it to her friends, he's probably be mortified if he knew. She should just ignore it, it's not going to affect her and there is plenty of worse things he could be doing. | | | | | | |

| | I'm an adult male and also suck my thumb. I really don't know what the big deal is. I mean, heck, it's healthier than smoking, less expensive than gambling, not invasive by any means, more effective than aspirin or any drug, legal, convenient, etc., etc. I think it's absurd that it's less socially acceptable than almost all other habits and human traits. Perhaps if we'd all suck our thumb the world would be a better place (and I'd be able to suck my thumb publicly, whenever I want, without fear of other's reactions). | | | |
