Should we have a ban on size zero in the modelling world?  |

 LAst night we were watching 'the truth about size zero 'which was all about fashion houses only wanting near anorexic girls to model for them.In the documentary a very slim young lady who is size 8 (4 for US) decided to lose weight to become size zero and see how she was effected. She took 4 weeks and managed it but was emaciated and miserable.
How can fashion houses dictate the size a model must be before they will allow her to model their clothes? Surely it should be the other way around. The girls who are most attractive being who the fashion houses make the clothes for so that there is maximum interest in their fashions!
What do you think?
Should models refuse to waste away for the industry?
Would it work if all models were not size zero?
Should there be a ban on size zero enforced by the government?

She lost 14 pounds to become size zero and when she put on the size zero dress she had bought as a target, she looked lost in it.She had no shape of her own anymore .
Then she and her friends threw the dress in the dustbin and they went for a meal.:)

| mihimolly (4890) | 2 years ago | I think you are right. Her doctor did not approve but said he would support her with it to expose the truth about how unhealthy it was.
She completely changed her diet and was subsisting on mostly fruit and vegetables and excercising like mad with the help of an american fitness trainer. She said all she could think of all day was how hungry she was feeling.
It was a brave thing to do for a documentary .
She regained her original weight in 2 months. | |

| 2. AmbiePam (10688) | 2 years ago |  I saw a thing on the TV the other night about how designers keep making their clothes sizes they really aren't. They 'mis size' things to make them appeal to women. I don't know when our whole mindset changed on the way a woman should look. Should we blame Twiggy? I think if there were a ban on size zero models, there would be a positive response. Women on the catwalk and on the sidewalk would relax and feel freer to be themselves with less restrictions. I would love to think models would take the first step and refuse to model clothes with zero as the size. However, I think it is going to have to happen elsewhere. There is always some model, somewhere, desperate to be in the limelight, no matter what it takes to get there.

3.  coolseeds (2368) | 2 years ago |  I don't think it should be banned but I must say that I do not find it attractive. Personally I wouldn't lose weight for a job. Not that I can. LOL. Maybe 5lbs which will be gone in 2 weeks now that I am busy.
I think someone who would want to do that to their body has serious issues. Mental or drug.

| 4. polachicago (6168) | 2 years ago |  Our body structures are not the same. I am size 0 USA, so I am probably size 4 UK, or 34. I look and feel very healthy. I wouldn't ban size, but modeling agency. Some people are ok with any size as long as they don't look anorectic. I like healthy and not too skinny look.

People who are size 10 to 12 look perfectly slim and healthy to me.Its true though,your skeleton governs your shape.
I remember reading about mens body building and there were 3 types of physique governed by skeleton. All the top body builders fell within one type,the others while still muscular and lean really didnt have a hope of ever winning a major competition. | |

5.  DelicateFlower (247) | 9 months ago |  I do not think banning any particular size is the answer. I have personally known two girls who had the body of a model naturally. Both these girls had very fast metabolisms and were constantly snacking because they got hungry in a couple of hours. I would rather that the industry have a policy that every prospective model must pass a physical examination before the contract is signed. If a young woman is starving herself to an unhealthy weight for her body, a doctor should be able to find some signs of that in an examination. The scale isn't the only thing you look at, blood pressure, pulse, urin analysis. If everything checks out in the normal and this girl has a history of good health then she should be allowed to take the contract. That way healthy young women of many shapes could participate, since we all know that healthy and beautiful come in many forms.
