Women have come a long way. I find it very interesting to see how women has come along and gained what she has gained. We are no longer in the background but are known as people in our own rights. It was a hard battle and in some ways we are still fighting. Go to this site and it has all kinds of information. I don't get anything from anyone going to this site except the knowledge that we can go back and trace our footsteps. http://www.infoplease.com/spot/womenshistory1.html

in the early 20th century women and children were not considered people but property of their husbands or fathers. Yes we have come a long way.

Thanks for your response. I know that at one point a women could not even hold any property. It was always given to her husband no matter if it was given to her through a will.

Thank you for sharing this website. I was aware of it being Women's History Month but did know about this website. Women have always contributed to society, yet they have not always been recognized for their contributions. Congratulations to all women and thank you for your contributions!

I couldn't agree with you more. Well stated! I have always wanted my wife to be my equal and not someone who was my dependent.

This is not a site to down men but to uplift women. Years ago men didn't think of women as anything but baby makers and taking care of the house. They did not look at them as having a mind to think with. Men went off to war and the women were left behind to hold jobs and keep this country alive. Women found out that they were able to do things outside of the home and they liked it. The men came home from war and expected the women to go back in the mold she was and it just was not going to happen. We love our men but we also have a right to be individuals and think for ourselves. Men used to think that women needed to be taken care of and maybe some do but there are also those who are more than capable of taking care of themselves. We just don't lean on a man that way anymore. Our need runs today in having a man's moral support, to back us when we make a decision and love us for who we are. We love men as they are and that is all we ask in return. Thanks for your response.

Your welcome. I felt it is important to know that we women have a whole lot more offered to us today but we had to fight for that.

Thanks for your response. I found it fascinating because it does go in detail the things that women had to contend with and to me not to awful long ago. I am glad I live in this day and age.

What a great site, there's tons of information there and I will be going back to visit and read more. It's funny but you know I had a thought when I first read this discussion. All the big to-do about it being "Women's History Month" is there a "Men's History Month"? I've never heard of it and am thinking this isn't fair to the men if there isn't one. All the publisity for women's history is great but I do think men should have "equal rights"...

I have never heard of a man's history month. I think it probably has been because of how women have been treated over the years. I think what women's history month is trying to bring out is how women have had to struggle along and fight for everything they have today. Men have not had to struggle in the same sense women have had to. Women were not even considered worthwhile. Their opinions did not count at all. Women were considered possessions. So I would think that why men do not have a men's history day.
