Does anyone remember Fats Domino or am I showing my age? |
| |
| I'm listening to some Very old music and a Fat's Domino song came on and I started wondering how many people actually remember him and some of his songs. I started reading about him and he led an interesting life as most performers do. He was in the news in 2005 after having survived the horrendous flood in New Orleans. At first he was thought to have been missing until he finally showed up and everyone sighed with relief. It would have been a shame to lose another great performer. In the early 50's he started out as a R&B artist with his records hitting the charts and selling in the millions. He came onto the Rock and Roll scene in 1955 when his record "Aint That Ashame" was covered by recording artist Pat Boone. Boone's version went to #1 and Domino's version #10! The song established both artists as stars. Fats Domino could be heard in the background on the records of other artists such as Joe Turner and Lloyd Price. He continued to write songs many of which became hits. In 1956 he put 5 songs in the Top 40, including "I'm In Love Again" and his rendition of the #1 Glenn Miller song from 1940 "Blueberry Hill" (which is a fact that I didn't know!!). It went to #2 for Fats and was his highest charting record ever. My favorites from Fats Domino are from 1960 "Walking to New Orleans"and "Jambalaya". He took his place in The Rock And Roll Hall of Fame in 1986. Does anyone recall any of his other songs? Was he a favorite of yours "way back when"? | | Fats Domino | | | | |

| | I grew up listening to all that stuff. My dad had a massive record collection and was constantly playing Jerry Lee Lewis, Chuck Berry, Fats Domino and a bunch of the other old-time rock n, roll guys. | | | | | | |

| | So, how old did you say you were????? Yes, I remember him and his music. He was one of the great ones. Ain't that a Shame, was one of my favorites. It was even good when Cheap Trick did a remake of it years later. When there are great songs written, they are remade by many different artist. I guess what I loved about his music was it had soul. Not disco soul from the 70's, but deep down real soul. Something that came from the heart. | | | | | | |

| | Ummm...I don't think I did say how old I am...did I ??? Probably didn't have to with that discussion. Your so right though. Music back then came from the heart and no place else. I do remember Cheap Tricks remake, they weren't too bad either for their time. | | | |

| | Antoine Dominique Domino seems to be one of the pioneers of rock & roll not only as a singer, but as a piano player. Some of his songs led into other songs for other artists in the 1960's. The only two songs that usually get played nowadays, if at all, are Blueberry Hill & Ain't That A Shame. Got to admit he's lucky to be alive after Hurricaine Katrina demolished New Orleans. | | | | | | |

I was born in 1960 and my parents were 19 and 20 so you know my early childhood was filled with loud Rock n Roll...lol I remember being 4 years old and standing on the picnic table outside singing and dancing to the radio or records my mother was blaring in the house.. and if that wasn't bad enough she married a musician...when I was 5. | | | | | | |

| | I do remember Fats but think you listed all the songs I can think of right now, it seems I heard or read someplace that he actually wrote several hundred songs that were preformed by other artists but I may be confussing him with someone else. Dating yourself? Yes, I was infact born in 1955 and actually remember more the "re-runs" I've always like the music of that era. | | | | | | |

| | I know who Fats Domino is. It's such a shame that he didn't get the recognition he deserved when he was alive. I took a rock and roll history class, and we went to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland. They have an Exhibit of just him. | | | | | | |

| | I have a cd of his music; Matter of fact, when Katrina happened, he was in the news since he was living in New Orleans; But last I heard he is well. Nope your not showing your age, but if you remember Fats, that lets us know that you was around when he was in his prime. | | | | | | |

| | Yes, I was definitely around when he was in his prime. Being born in 1947, I didn't miss a beat! | | | |
