Do you prefer jogging outside on streets/trails, or on a level track/treadmill? |

| The weather is lovely today and the forecast calls for decent temperatures for the next week. I'm planning on taking up my jogging routine again tonight (even though I have a slight head cold). I haven't jogged regularly since about last September--so we'll see how it goes. Anyway, I always run outside on the streets. It's the most available option for me. I find the hills to be a challenge, but I like it. I've noticed that running on the streets keeps me more aware and alert of what's going on around me, and I observe much more. On a track, I tend to zone out (though it's been years since I ran on a track). I also find that I feel more in touch with my body when running on the streets. Because of the hills and the outdoor conditions, I have to adjust my body and my breathing in order to successfully, not painfully, jog. There's a very large hill in the route I usually take--and it felt so good to finally figure out how I needed to breathe and pace myself all the way to the top. It felt wonderful to finally do it. It also felt good to finally run the entire route without having to stop--and then lengthen the route gradually over the weeks. I first started running outside because it was the only option I could afford! I can't afford a treadmill (though I would like one for the winter or very rainy days when I can't safely run outside), and I can't afford and also just don't want to dish out the money for a gym membership. Where do you prefer to jog? | | | | | |

| | I've heard that exercising with a cold isn't too bad for you--but exercising with more flu-like symptoms will just cause more problems. | | | |

| | I usually jog on the streets as you do. I like to run on the streets late afternoon especially when the sun gets to set. It makes me feel more comfortable. I don't really jog on hills because I easily lose my breathe. There was once I wanted to try treadmill but since the day my DAd was brought to the hospital because of the high blood pressure after doing a treadmill, it never came to my mind anymore of trying it. :) | | | | | | |

| | i prefer jogging outdoors because the scenerey is not too monotonous. plus you'll be getting a whole lot of fresh air in the process as well. jogging requires a proper breathing technique so you don't get exhausted fast. yeah, i agree hills are a huge challenge. it simply robs me of my breath. ^_^ | | | | | | |

| | Maybe jogging on trails is better than on streets since the smoke of that vehicle disgust me. *_* | | | | | | |

| | If I jogged it would be on a track - best for my knees. My sister ran several miles a day on hills and lost all the cartilage in her knees - or the majority and had to have it replaced. Granted, back then they didn't have sneakers specifically made to cushion impact for a runner. I walk, do yoga, aerobics all that - but because of her experience and because I forget to breathe when I'm running/jogging. However, again, if I did, it would be on a level track/treadmill. | | | | | | |

| | Jogging anywhere can give good benefits to our body especially to our heart. So it does not matter where you go on jogging whether on streets/trails or on a level track or treadmill. This may depend on the weather condition or the place where we live in or where we work. But if I am given the chose, I prefer to go on jogging on places where the routes are partly shaded (so as not to feel to hot) and not so cool because of the sun rays. The place will be very good for my body to balance the temperature, good breathing, and moderate sweating to cast out impurities in my body. | | | | | | |

| | Hooray! I love to learn that I'm not the only running-crazy person out there! I am also too cheap to join a gym, and the outdoors has always been more fun than a treadmill. Nerdytina, it sounds like you're one of those people who will not be tethered in a glass box, churning away on what is essentially a flat hamster-wheel. Let me guess--no mp3 player for you while jogging, right? You're probably safer and more self-aware that way. If you have not joined a 5k, 10k, or half-marathon, I really do suggest training for one. You are a road runner and would enjoy an outdoor party with like-minded athletes. I'll see you at the starting line. | | | | | | |
