Do you wait for the baby shower before you buy anything for the new baby?

I couldn't help myself. I bought a bunch of stuff. It was so much fun for me and I could not help myself. There will be plenty to buy, and it gets expensive so you might not have to worry about leaving enough for people to buy. Plus if you decide how you are going to decorate the room, then everyone will have a theme to go by and you can get lots of things to go with what you have already bought. I think that you will find things you want to buy and eventually feel that you have spent enough to satisfy you until the shower if you keep that in mind while you are shopping. I bought clothes and a stroller and little things. My father sent the crib when he found out I was already buying stuff. He was worried that I might get it before he could.

My baby shower turned out great. I didn't get a lot of doubles. Everybody bought diapers, and believe me, you can't have too many of them.

I just bought 3 sets of baby clothes which was on sale at the time. I anticipated the more clothes, diapers and feeding bottles will be presented during the baby shower.

I had my baby's christening four months after he was born so I got more on my baby wish list including the stroller, carrier and play pen plus more clothing.

I didn't have a baby shower so i just bought everything, i figrued it couldn't hurt coz if you end up with doubles of something, you can just take the one you bought back & you'll have a little spare cash to buy something else you might need but didn't end up getting!

If you know you are having a baby shower I would try to hold off it will save you time and money, I would still buy clothes, clothes, diapers ect.

I bought most of the big stuff, crib, stroller, car seat etc. and left some of the smaller items for friends/family to buy. We registered for the stuff we wanted, that way people knew exactly what we wanted to recieve.

I would go ahead and buy the stuff now. You can always return stuff if you need to. Besides, the big things you mentioned arent usually bought for baby showers. People usually stick with clothes, toys, diapers and other small things. You can also make a baby registry for the items you want but dont want to buy yet and then they wont buy you any replicas. I wish I had done that for my baby shower lol

i did buy the stuff. i brought most of it and got some as gifts when she was born. i had a small shower and got stuff but little things. the second child i did not have a shower,and its was fine by me .

No I did not wait for my shower to start getting things I knew my baby would need, and Thank God, because nobody ever gave me the shower! My mother was going to give me one in my home town about 100 miles from where I live now, but I became to fragile to make the trip. My mother in-law asked my mom to get a list of my friends together because she said SHE was going to give me a shower in the town where we live, but it never happened.
Towards the end of my pregnancy, every time the in-laws invited me over I half expected to hear "surprise" and have my shower, but it never happened. I got really depressed at the end of my pregnancy when I saw the baby registry that everyone insisted I make, have no purchases on it except the ones I made myself. So I bought everything the baby needed with help from my mom, and I cried every day for the last two months of my pregnancy because I felt that nobody cared enough for me or my unborn child to pay us any mind.
For me the shower was not about the presents, but about the last time in my life for something to be about me, even if only for an hour, before my life changed forever.
I had a lot of pregnant friends at the time, and whenever they told me about their showers, I just wanted to crawl under a rock and die. My daughter is two and it still hurts me.
I know it's stupid and I shouldn't care, but I do.

I don't think a Mom could ever wait for the baby shower before she buys something for her baby. And it's always normal to feel this way, especially that you know too well that there are lots of sale items around. But, somehow for me, I try to lessen from buying lots of stuff for my baby although it's my Mom who does the "so much" buying for my first baby these days. She's just to excited for me and my first baby being the youngest in our fam'ly which is why I always tell her, it seems that you're the one having your first baby this time.Lol.

We didn't really buy anything new, but I went to a resale place and got some basic newborn size clothes that were unisex (before we knew we were having a boy). It helped me resist buying the stuff in stores, and gave us a little cheap stuff in case DS was born bigger than that size.:) We did have a few things from when SS15 and SD12 were little, so we let people know we didn't need those. Don't worry if you get doubles of things. Sometimes you can use the doubles, and if not, just return or exchange them.

Oh, I started buying diapers each month in the larger sizes. That way I had some for when he started getting bigger.:)
