Do you prefer drinking from Glass, Aluminum, Paper, or Plastic containers? |
| |
| I can't stand to drink from aluminum containers, and I prefer drinking from glass, but I will drink from plastic. What about you? Do you have any preferences? Why? | | | | | |

| | I prefer drinking from an aluminum can, I don't know why I just like it better than anything else. I don't like drinking from a glass because I am afraid I might drop it and break it =) | | | | | | |

| | Well, Michele, I guess that's pretty practical. Do you ever "taste" the aluminum from which you're drinking? | | | |

| | I definitely prefer to drink from glass because it is much colder or at least is seems that way to me. As for aluminum containters, I always feel like they leave an aftertaste in my mouth. The worse part about this is that so few companies now bottle bevarages in glass. | | | | | | |

| | I feel the same way, cyclonewriter. There is an aftertaste associated with drinking from aluminum containers. I suppose there may be an aftertaste from glass, but I don't notice it. While few companies bottle beverages in glass, if given the choice between aluminum or plastic, I'll take plastic. Thanks for responding. | | | |

| | chileman, I'm with you until the aluminum. I just don't like the taste of aluminum. However, I do like drinking out of those metal cups that were popular in the 1960's and 1970's. Ironic, huh? | | | |

| | Beer, wine, etc always from glass, aluminium and plastic taint the flavour. Tea from China, preferably fine bone China, I don't know why but I think it is to do with requiring less energy to heat it up but the tea taste better. Water from the tap or stream! all the best urban | | | | | | |

| | Its funny you say that about bone china and tea urbankay. I enjoy Tea any way its served, but when I am home and make a cup of Tea I always indulge myself in a cup from the china cabinet. I don't think it tastes any better than a stoneware cup, its the idea of elegance for me. LOL the things we do to entertain ourselves. | | | |

| | Well, well, well, Angelwhispers. You have gotten me into a confession mood, so I will tell you that all of my glasses are wine glasses of some kind. I even keep these wine glasses in my car cup holders when I'm driving around town and all. I've been helping a friend build his house, a he's hired some carpenters. These guys think it's hilarious when I drive up in my truck with my wine glass full of Coca Cola in my hand. | | | |

| | If I'm going to pour anything into a container I prefer it to made of glass. I like plastic bottles just because they don't break and are to take with you. However for soda I prefer to drink it out of a can for the taste, but that might just be what I'm used to since that's how I drank it growing up. I seem to enjoy the after taste. | | | | | | |

| | You make a good point, filmbuff. Those who grew up on aluminum don't mind the taste. In my young years, we drink soda out of glass bottles. I'm not that much older than you (I like to think) but I can clearly remember getting glass bottled Cokes out of the Coke machines, glass bottled 2 liter Cokes, etc. I prefer the taste of glass for most anything I drink. | | | |

| | On that note, there was an old-fashioned soda machine at this one newspaper office where I worked (just 7 years ago or so) and it sold glass-bottled cokes. They were these old-fashioned bottles, and they had to be sent in to be refilled. It was kinda neat. | | | |

| | I certainly remember taking bottles back to the store. The old fashioned bottled soda dispensers even had a bottle opener in the machine, a friend of mine here in mylot reminded me of that in one of my discussions. Funny what we hold precious. | | | |

| | It depends on what I'm drinking. (I can never give a simple answer, can I?) If I'm drinking most things, I don't really care what I drink from. I'd rather have plastic than glass because it's harder to break and I'm a klutz. I'm not that fond of drinking out of aluminum cans, but if I'm out somewhere and it's easier I'll do it. When it comes to glass, the only time I prefer it is when I'm drinking wine or other alcohol. I just feel silly drinking it out of a plastic glass, and it just doesn't feel as much of a treat that way. (I don't drink alcohol often.) | | | | | | |

| | One of my favorite movie scenes is National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation, when Chevy Chase and Beverly D'Angelo 'clink' together their plastic wine glasses. That scene has always stayed with me as particularly funny. I prefer glass, but also like plastic for bottled drinks that I can reseal. I must confess, I've never had an alcoholic drink in my life. It's not a religious thing. I just never cared to start. Growing up, it was very convenient for my friends, as I always drove. | | | |

| | Plastic is very useful for resealing. I need that, because otherwise I'll spill things everywhere. (Seriously, once my best friend said that I had spilled as much on her rug as her 3 children.) I don't think there's anything wrong with not drinking. I'm sure it is great for your friends, who can always count on you to be the sober one. In the darker times in my life, I used alcohol like I used any other drug, and I won't ever go back to that. I'm never going to be an alcoholic like some members of my family either. But having a drink once in a while helps me to unwind, and I have been known to use it as "liquid courage" on rare occasions. | | | |

| | I prefer in this order: glass, aluminum, plastic, paper. I don't like drinking from plastic because it doesn't stay cool and since I can't stand ice, this is a big factor for me. Usually it's aluminum for me because that is what is out there the most, I guess. | | | | | | |

| | I vote for glass. I don't like the metalic taste you get from aluminum cans. Plastic tends to sometimes hold the flavors from before yuck. I don't generaly go anywhere where paper cups are used. I don't use ice either only because it hurts my teeth. | | | | | | |

| | Most defiantly it would be glass. I if I do drink out of a can I use a snuggy, and the soda has to stay cold. I really hate to drink out of plastic. For some reason plastic glasses tend to absorb the smell of your dish washing agent.Paper cups work in a pinch and of course are the prefered glass at social picnics and events. But as a rule for me it is glass. | | | | | | |

| | You're quite right about the tendency of plastic cups to absorb the smell of the dish washing agent, angelwhispers. That must be another reason why I don't like plastic cups. | | | |

| | You know that dish detergent issue is one I've had a lot of problems with, since I tend to use plastic glasses. I don't know what other options there are though. Obviously not paper cups at home because that would be kind of eco-unfriendly, and I always wind up breaking glass ones. Dang it, now what am I going to drink out of? Anyone know of any "unbreakable" glass cups or glasses? | | | |
filmbuff (1336)
|
| | I've noticed that with plastic cups too. Also if you poor soda into plastic glasses it just faams like crazy compared to one made of glass. Lecanis: I don't know of any unbreakable glasses in particular but I believe pyrex is one of the stronger commercial glasses out there, so you might check to see if you can find some made from it. | | | |

| | I have a set of Martha Stewart glasses from K-mart that is hard plastic and they do not seem to have the smell of dish soap issue. On the other hand they do not last to long in a dish washer and they get tiny cracks in the plastic. I guess hand washing would then be the answer. | | | |
lecanis (7304)

| | Oh those both sound like good options. I really do get tired of having to replace glass glasses when I break them. Except this one set that my grandmother sent me, that I hated because they were just like the ones she had, and I just couldn't stand them. My husband and I had a glass-smashing party that day. Err... I'm weird, I know. | | | |

| | When I was a kid our glasses were ball mason canning jars or jelly jars. To this day I hate cheap glasses that remind me of those we used as a child. For one we would get in trouble for spilling but both had screw top rims and they were hard to drink out of. | | | |
lecanis (7304)

| | Yes those types of jars are very hard to drink out of, I've tried it too. How sad that you got in trouble for spilling in that case. *shakes her head* I have things I'm like that about too. There are certain things that I just will not have in my home because they are references to the past for me. And those darn diamond patterned impossible to wash glasses were one of them, so they went! Spectacularly, messily, and with much ado. I think we even shot one. | | | |
