It happens at times....well, my mom shared the same experience as your mom during the first few years of their marriage...and though I was yet a kid I could feel that somehow my mom didn't feel so comfortable when my grandmom is around, especially those times that we shared the same roof together...and we even resorted to dining separate from my grandparents and my uncles...we were occupying the second floor of my grandparent's house, so my mom and dad decided to have our own dining table. well, I guess that helped. to put it simply, try to avoid if possible and don't be so obvious that you are keeping some lil grudges somehow coz that could only worsen the situation... then by the time you and your partner can prove to them that you are inseparable...well, they got nothing else to do but accept you as their daughter in law. Godbless!
