The '' Painted Lady''  email this discussion to a friend?

myLot reputation of 99/100. bluewings (2353) 5 years ago

This is the story of a painted lady. When I was a kid,it was a school project .My class teacher had asked me to write a picture of a painted lady and get as many photos of her as I could. The colors,I was told, should be vibrant and full of celebration.Hmm..I was confused and didn't understand, but I didn't want to lose my marks .So,I didn't dare to ask her change my project.

When I started looking around how I could get it done,I found that there was a beautiful lady with a painted body.Yes, it is a butterfly by the name of 'Painted lady'.I had a lovely time collecting photographs of the painted lady and learning about it.It was undoubtedly one of the most entertaining school projects I ever had.

Could you share with me some of your school projects that you will never forget?

School was about 20 years ago and I don't remember much about it. About the only thing that came to mind was some collage I did and not sure for what class. I picked Three Dog Night and thought I did pretty good and another student thought that I had copied them. I gues that was the first indication of how people would be in this day and age.

myLot reputation of 99/100. bluewings (2353)  5 years ago

I used to do collages as well and loved it.Once we had to do a collage for the soccer players of that years worldcup. It was fun.

It was when I was in secondary school. The school was having a fund raising project. Our class was allocated 10 booklets to sell. Few of us were so enthusiastic such that we went out to the streets to sell. We managed to clear the 10 booklets in a day without knowing that we can be caught for violating the law. It was tough asking people to buy the tickets but fun to challenge ourselves to ask strangers for donations. Perhaps we are really naive then. LOL.

It was fun to read .So,I am sure you guys must have had a ball selling them.LOL

Oh I love the painted lady! Anyway, one of my favorite projects was performing a solo scene for drama class in high school. I chose Ibsen's A Doll's House and I just loved learning it and performing it.

myLot reputation of 99/100. bluewings (2353)  5 years ago

Well bluewings, you really got me thinking about projects. The only project I can think of is a project I did about how much salt water effects plants. I had about 6 plants and a about 6 gallons of water each with a little more salt in it than the last.

Of course I found out that salt water hinders a plants growth. It was fun watching them grow though. It was a long project

myLot reputation of 99/100. bluewings (2353)  5 years ago

Yeah, that is a good scientific experiment. You could literally see the effect of brine on the plants every passing day.

myLot reputation of 87/100. mzbubblie (1653)  5 years ago

You had me really think hard about that project. I'm a old lady now, you really had me thinking back...lol

My most memorable school project was to learn how to do block printing. When I was in 8th grade we were given this project and yes it changed my life and I went into arts field after my schooling.

myLot reputation of 99/100. bluewings (2353)  5 years ago

Lovely discussion about a beautiful lady.:-).It has a very poetic flavour, almost romantic.A young innocent boy lost in search for his painted lady.An adorable picture it paints indeed.

One of the enjoyable projects I remember was to create a work of art out of waste material.I looked around in the garden, backyard and finally in the kitchen dustbin.Lol.

I saw a few eggshells lying there and I got an idea.Gingerly I picked them up,washed them clean and kept them on the shelf to dry out.I painted vibrant coloured petals on the shells trying to make them appear like flowers. With the help of painted broomsticks, I made the shells stand and tied with a satin ribbon to make it look like a bouquet.

myLot reputation of 99/100. bluewings (2353)  5 years ago

lol Thanks! Yeah,it was a lot of fun getting the pictures.I might even get the scrapbook if I earnestly search it.

That sounds like a wonderful project.I kindof want to see how it looked.Thankyou for sharing :-)

myLot reputation of 99/100. Melody1 (423)  5 years ago

Maybe I can make it again to teach my younger one.She is such a perfectionist,I'm certain she won't like it much.Lol.She might suggest me to make a joker's face on the shell instead. That also comes out well.:-)

myLot reputation of 99/100. bluewings (2353)  5 years ago

That would be funny, lol, especially if it could be made into a dancing joker by pushing in sticks into the open end of the shells :-P

That is a beautiful butterfly!

I had to write a commemorative speech in my public speaking class. I commemorated a 1986 Volvo station wagon that was passed down to me in 1996! It was so funny because the power steering went out, but my father told me it was a safety precaution, the back window was so dirty because I never washed it and the wiper didn't work and when my rear view mirror fell off I figured I can't see anything back there anyway! The muffler fell started dragging on the road when I was driving it! It was so funny because in 1986 it was my idea to buy it because I knew someone that had one and I thought station wagons were cool! The technology was advanced back then, if you were inside and pushed down the driver side door lock, all the locks locked! It had heated seats too! Once I was driving it and some man and his kids were crossing the street in the middle of the road instead of at the crosswalk, and the dad ran straight into my car and he bumped himself really hard! His kids started laughing so hard! lol, he was so embarrassed he ran away, it was his fault but he wasn't hurt. There were just so many fun stories to tell about that car, and I had a dream in the speech to take it to it's millionth mile because it was already at 700,000 miles! But it never happened because, my dad leased me a new car! It was a really fun project because the car ended up so bad and I made it sound like the brand new car I was driving after the life of the Volvo, with all the newer technology, sucked!

myLot reputation of 99/100. bluewings (2353)  5 years ago

lol Quite an antique.700k miles? wow, lol.I guess the man should have considered himself lucky and not embarrassed to have crashed against a vehicle that never gives up,lol. Thanks!

You knew the butterfly's name then? Great.

I remember many projects and enjoyed the experience. When I was seven years old we were asked to watch a bird weave its nest.It was more of a holiday homework. With great difficulty my father found a nest on a tree.On my insistence he put a ladder and helped me climb it.I could just manage to barely peep in.There was nothing inside and i was so disappointed,I didn't even care to see how it was woven.

When I was eleven, our teacher asked us to illustrate the solar eclipse. My parents thought it was a bit tough for me and offered help. But i declined.I took some clay and tried to mould it round to make it resemble earth and left it to dry.A few days later when i happily lifted it,to my dismay I saw it crumble unceremoniously and reunite with the soil.Lol.

Another project was to make solar system.I was thirteen then.I took plastic balls of different sizes and covered them with glazed paper and fixed them with locking wire trying to display their respective orbits.I surrounded it with black chart paper with white dots to make it look like the universe. It turned out to be a shabby one.but i was very proud.Lol.The pic is of the same project,Our solar system.:-D

My recent projects were of complicated nature and turned out quite good.

Oh,I can't find the option of add image here.

myLot reputation of 99/100. bluewings (2353)  5 years ago

You had some of the best projects in the whole planet.I envy you already, lol.

I ,too, had to submit a project of Umbra and Penumbra.I liked doing it by myself ,but it wasn't half as interesting as your battle with clay, lol.I think I won't have to worry about the BR for this one.

myLot reputation of 98/100. worthy (917)  5 years ago

Best wishes for your project.
I'll add its image on my profile page. And a li'l correction here.i remember now that i couldn't attach the plastic ball, so i made planets of cardboard.
Do check it on my profile page.

That sounds great!! You must have had a great time then.

As I child, I remember having some great assignments. My school was known for summer camps and various multifarious activities. Our projects varied from some girly stuffs life sandwich making to many others like pottery. I just used to have fun with clay and pots and wheels to knives cutting edges of breads or smearing mustard and shredding veggies.

Beside these, we had a great lot of fun from the projects and crafts that used to come to our brains. I remember designing one miniature chariot before RATHYATRA, which won some prizes in community level. We also had RAKHI made our selves and lemme tell you those were far better than the market ones. Then, we friends and sisters used to do some wacky projects like flour grenade, where, we used to tie flour in cotton cloth and tie it tight and throw it on each other.

More recently, I was teaching my nieces to destroy CDs. That was a fun project. They crafted and painted figures and smileys with flamboyant colors. They loved it much. I had some CDs microwaved and the kids bursted the bubbles. I would never forget their eager and bright eyes. It was heavenly!!!

myLot reputation of 99/100. bluewings (2353)  5 years ago

LOL! If that's the way CDs are destroyed ,then I would love to be taught :-P lol I remember making decors out of nonfunctional CDs by tieing them up.

I have never tried the flour grenades though, lol, but I know for sure that it would have been really fun to with with because we used to make projectiles by folding paper and used rubberbands to shoot them at our friends .We used to call them bullets :-P

lol Though the last one sounds fun-CDs microwaved-I won't like to try that .I like my microwave even if I don't have much use for the destroyed CDs:-P.I would prefer the flour grenades!lol

myLot reputation of 99/100. mimpi1911 (8497)  5 years ago

you just made me remember the projectile thing, even i used to that a lot. those were the good, old days...
and dear, microwaved CDs look great with soft protusions all over, they are great fun for the children.

Hmmm so you got to do a very intresting a colourful project! In scholl well one summer I got to read 8 novels and had to summarize each novel and also identify who was my favourite character and why? I loved this summer project one 'cos I got 8 new shiny books and 2 'cos I for the first time got introduced to Classics like shakespeare and Jane Austen to this day I love reading Macbeth, Jane Eyre & Pride and Prejudice. They have not lost their flavor even after so many years or so many books later. There were ofcourse many other projects before and after this summer but the summer of reading novels was the best and also the finest.
There were many social activities too I was involved with but they were not projects they were some very serious use of my time, but great learning experiences.

myLot reputation of 99/100. bluewings (2353)  5 years ago

I would take reading Classics like those as a lucky project over innumerable others that our teachers got us to do during school days.I wish we had projects for arts ,too.We mostly had science and social science projects and very few literary assignments. That was perhaps because our english teacher was also our Head teacher and believed in getting everything done under her supervision. She was a perfectionist and kept getting promoted with us for every class.Happy memories!:)

myLot reputation of 96/100. DeaXyza (332)  5 years ago

oh we did have those science projects and history projects , there were geography projects on how to make a volcano etc but the english one was particulary enjoyable all I had to do was read beautiful books! Sigh... memories are so great!
Thanks for reviving them!

myLot reputation of 99/100. bluewings (2353)  5 years ago

My Pleasure! Yes,creating a crater for a dormant volcano would be quite an experience. We had something similar. If you are on Mylot tomorrow ,then I guess you'd get your Mylot star.

myLot reputation of 99/100. bluewings (2353)  5 years ago

I hope I would laugh at it when I will be 3 months old on Mylot :-P But it's embarrassing ,lol.yeah,I should let go.
