Having a 1GB download-upload limit; it is not possible to respond to discussions  

Are you using BSNL?Because i'm using BSNL too.Well,i was first time having 400MB upload/download limit and then i shifted to 1GB upload/download because that limit was very less and i could not use the internet much.Now that 1Gb is increased to 2.5GB that is why i am able to surf the internet more and what more i can respond to mylot discussions very much.And also they increased the speed upto 2Mbps.:D

Though BSNL is costly in compare to Airtel, because in Bsnl in addition to rental, you will have to pay for access extra on downloads and uploads there has problems of viruses also as I think, where as in Airtel you can entertain unlimited and speedy and uninterupted and virus problems is nil,
BSNL is going to privatisation for some infrastructures, afterwards you go to bsnl will be good, because at this time BSNL has no better mechanism as provate has and I think if you have Airtel in your city it is better than others, I give you this advice because I have used many other providers, if you want to compare try www.airtelbroadband.in and bsnl.com for more ..

I think myLot is not going up your bandwidth very much. It is not a very bandwidth intensive task. I would give you a suggestion, you can use the options of your browsers and ask it not to load images in the webpages. This is drastically reduce the consumption of bandwidth, also if you are using firefox, you could get plugins, like ad blocker which would be used to block flash, applets etc and further reduce your bandwidth usage.

It's easy, you just disable image showing, because I found out that the computer is not caching image from mylot.
Here's the guide :

Firefox:
Cick "Tools" option, and then choose "Options". Go to "Content" and uncheck "load image automatically"

IE
Go to "Tools" and then choose "Internet Options". In the new bar choose the "Advance", and in Multimedia section uncheck the "show picture" option.

Opera
Go to "Tools" and select "Preferences". Go to the "Web Pages" tab and then choose "No Images" in images drop down menu.

I think if you only surfing website then 1 gb is not a less quanitity..but if you also download softwares and other things then it is less sownloading limit. But for surfing it is sufficient...
