Surviving the tough times |
|
Do you feel that you can survive tough times easier if you have survived them before? For instance, if you went through a divorce and you were faced with that situation again, do you feel you could get through it any easier? Do you fell "hardened" to life's difficulties if you have suffered them before? Like losing a job or jobs, do you think that you can continue to survive because you have confidence from surviving the loss previously? Have you gotten to the point where you feel you could survive any difficulty? Thanks for any comments.

1. cremechese (4503) | 3 years ago | Yes. I used to have an awful time when I was young, but once I had struggled through and gotten past difficulties, eventually I*knew* I could survive anything. You develop confidence in yourself as time goes by. This is a very good point, thanks.

sigma77 (4282) | 3 years ago | That is my feeling also. As you go through life, any number of difficulties can arise. After you have expereinced a few, they loose their power to scare you. Thanks.

2. lecanis (7212) | 3 years ago | Yes. I think that the hard times I had in my youth have made it possible to survive things that I otherwise might not have. I never give up now. Whatever happens, I know I can do what I have to, and become even stronger as time goes on.
I don't even think it has to be the same specific difficulty to affect how you deal with it. I think that once you've dealt with a lot of problems in your life, you'll know how to deal with life in general better. I feel like I could survive anything now.

3. helenfillion (2551) | 3 years ago | No. it doesn't get easier once its happened before. Each time I fail at something it hurts, it doesn't matter how many times its happened before. Of course, we all survive after being hurt or let down, that's all a part of life. We have to fight to live the kind of life we want, good or bad. Yes, I can survive anything, I've learned this from my past. So can everyone else, if they want to badly enough.

|
|
sigma77 (4282) | 3 years ago | Yes, it can still hurt. But at least you know you come out ok in the end.

5. dragonryder (3573) | 3 years ago | I think if have gone through something previously it does make it easier the second time around. since you already have experience in the matter you know how to deal with it better. I think in time if we don't go through something personally then we can learn from what our friends have gone through and watch and see how they handled the situation. Not just our own experiences can help us get through tough times but the ones around us as well.
| |
| |
|
|
sigma77 (4282) | 3 years ago | That is a good point. Seeing how others handle things can certainly help us along the way.

| 6. reluctantexan (94) | 3 years ago | I've read the other comments, and agree with some. I think the older we grow, the more difficulties we encounter. As said before, "That's Life." Yes, it always hurts. When it stops hurting, we are dead, either in body or in spirit. The choice we face is whether to allow life to harden us or whether we choose to continue to feel, in spite of the pain.
But remember:
"When you think you've hit the bottom, and you're feeling really low, just wait until tomorrow. There's always one step further down you can go."
| |
| |
|
|
sigma77 (4282) | 3 years ago | That is true. There is life after hitting bottom. I didn't mean so much that becoming hardened meant you don't still have feelings, but that you have a sense of being able to overcome any problems. Thanks.

7. Transdisc (18489) | 3 years ago | Sigma77, I definately think that the unbearable experiencs of my past have shaped not only who I am, but how I look at the 'survivability' of the things I face. When accessing how I will survive a crisis situtation, I depend on past experiences to help me navigate the tough spots, and to plan my way overall. Yes, there are times when I just don't want to deal with the sh*t of a situation, and I don't necessarily think that my past will enable me to get through the same situation any easier, but I am confident that I will get through it.
Of course, there are some past situations that nearly destroyed me, that are no longer a priority at all for me now, so, in that case, it is easier to get through them now, simply because I don't care like I used to.
While I may feel that I can survive most difficulties, I also am awre that there are some difficulties I may not want to survive.

sigma77 (4282) | 3 years ago | That is an interesting point of view. I have to think about your last statement(sentence)...that requires some thought. Thanks

lecanis (7212) | 3 years ago | "While I may feel that I can survive most difficulties, I also am awre that there are some difficulties I may not want to survive."
You know, I didn't think about this myself, but now that you mention it, it's true for me as well.
You're awfully cheerful, you know that?*shudders*
| |
|
|
Transdisc (18489) | 3 years ago | As bad as that last line sounds, it wasn't mean to be totally depressing. There was a time in my life where not surviving scared me. Now, I'm okay with it. So, not surviving isn't as scary to me as it once was due to my own sense of inner peace.
| |
|
|
lecanis (7212) | 3 years ago | *nods* I'm not afraid of dying, so that's not what I found depressing. It's just that the line lead to thinking of particular instances where that would be the case.
Anyway, I agree with you that there is a point at which there are things more important that are surviving, and things you'd rather not survive.

9. 7nicole1 (1566) | 3 years ago | I dont believe it gets easier if your faced with a bad situation that you have faced before because things can always be worst the second time around. All I do believe is if someone has suffered something ruff it doesnt get easier as much as they kind of know what to expect. Its the surprise of the bad situations that make them bad so take that away then theres no surprise making it much easier to deal with.
| |
| |
|
|
sigma77 (4282) | 3 years ago | That is true, the second time around can be rougher. Those surprises can make the past expereinces seem easy. Thanks

10. yudishtira (107) | 3 years ago | It will depends on the person who face it. You can see various thing at your social environments, how people face their life. Some of them being hopeless, even try to have suicides. Many of these people are sensitive and only use their feelings. And another people being more stronger, because they can read and learn about any situation and how to face it again. These people would be success, because they using both IQ and EQ.
